Plant Engineer - Heavy Construction Equipment
Location: Northampton
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (DOE) + Overtime + Standby Allowance
Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 - 17:00 (50 hours/week)
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Impact Recruitment are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a respected leader in plant and surfacing equipment maintenance based in Northampton. We are looking for an experienced and proactive Plant Engineer to join their high-performing maintenance team, working both in the workshop and out on-site with a variety of heavy machinery including planers, pavers, rollers, and small tools.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct diagnostics and repairs on a wide range of construction plant machinery.
  • Perform planned maintenance and inspections in accordance with safety and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Respond to on-site breakdowns, delivering efficient and professional repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records of service history, job sheets, and parts used.
  • Follow all health & safety regulations and ensure work areas remain clean and compliant.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and team members to provide updates and ensure service quality.

Candidate Requirements:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (Level 2 considered for time-served engineers).
  • Strong mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential (HGV licence a bonus).
  • Experience working with equipment such as Wirtgen, JCB, Bomag, and Ammann is highly desirable.
  • CSCS card and other plant-related certifications are an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in both workshop and field settings.

What's on Offer:
  • Competitive salary between £50,000 and £60,000, depending on experience.
  • Overtime available (Time & a Half after 17:00, Double Time after Midnight).
  • £325 standby allowance for on-call rota (1 in 4 weeks), plus callout pay.
