Leveraging artificial intelligence (AI), the Technical Content Engineer (TCE) oversees the development of certification exam questions, technical inquiry responses, and global training development while maintaining integrity, accuracy, and standard compliance. Additionally, the role manages AI-driven support for the Weldcert Pro system, providing consistent and accurate support to users while refining AI outputs and enhancing automation. Responsibilities include maintaining strong governance over data and content, improving knowledge bases, and staying current with advancements in AI and Certified Welder certification. Collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs) and cross-functional teams is a core component, ensuring all AI-assisted content is reviewed, validated, and continuously improved. The position drives continuous improvement in exam development processes, training materials, and technical guidance to support AWS's mission and global certification programs. Essential Duties Develop Certification Exam Content Create, review, approve, and maintain high-quality certification exam questions that accurately assess welding and nondestructive testing (NDT) knowledge and skills. Collaborate with the Qualification and Certification Subcommittee members and the Assessment team to generate, review, and approve AI generated questions. Maintain exam item pools, ensuring proper tagging, version control, and alignment to job task analyses. Manage exam content validation processes, including item analysis and exam performance reviews. Manage AI-driven exam item generation processes, overseeing prompt refinement, content integration, and quality assurance against approved reference materials. Ensure sufficiently large exam item pools consisting of accurate and appropriate questions so exam forms can be refreshed regularly for exam security and integrity. Participate in developing new AWS Certification Programs and be very familiar with existing AWS Certification exam maintenance needs. Leverage AI to interpret and respond to inquiries related to the AWS Weldcert Pro System. Use AI-powered tools to deliver accurate, timely, and consistent guidance on system functionality, workflows, and certification data. Support users with system navigation, compliance requirements, reporting, and certification records. Monitor and refine AI responses to ensure accuracy, quality, and alignment with AWS standards and data governance policies. Analyze inquiry trends to improve automation, documentation, and knowledge base content. Leverage AI to generate answers to technical inquiries for Technical Services based on AWS Standards Use AI tools to analyze and respond to complex technical questions from customers, internal teams, and field personnel. Provide accurate and timely technical guidance to support troubleshooting, system configurations, and operational workflows. Review and validate AI-generated responses, escalating complex or high-risk issues to SMEs as needed. Maintain and improve AI knowledge sources to enhance response quality and address recurring technical issues. Ensure all AI outputs comply with organizational policies, security requirements, and data governance standards. Leverage AI to develop international training materials Develop quality training materials in compliance with standards Support translation, localization, and cultural adaptation while maintaining instructional quality and standards. Collaborate with SMEs and regional stakeholders to validate AI-assisted content accuracy and relevance. Continuously evaluate and optimize AI methodologies to enhance global training effectiveness and learner outcomes. Collaborate and support AI project stakeholders, including SMEs, as well as Assessment, Accreditation, and Technical Services teams. Ensure Quality Assurance & Compliance Evaluate and validate AI-generated materials for accuracy, clarity, and effectiveness. Establish and maintain quality standards and compliance. Monitor performance metrics and implement continuous improvement processes to reduce errors, bias, and inconsistencies in AI-generated content. Design and optimize AI-assisted workflows, including prompt engineering, automated validation, and documentation of governance practices to ensure scalable, compliant content production. Other duties as assigned. Supervision Exercised None Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Technical Knowledge Strong technical background in welding and NDT. Experienced across multiple levels of welding, manufactory, fabrication, engineering industry, construction, quality control, inspection, or quality assurance. Thorough understanding of welding principles, processes, codes, and standards. Strong computer skills. Analytical & Quality Assurance Skills Commitment to continuous improvement of workflows and development processes. Project management experiences involving technology implementation. Continuous Improvement Mindset. Effective communication skills. Strong ability to collaborate with stakeholders, vendors, and volunteer SMEs. Required Education and Experience Minimum Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications Welding-industry recognized credentials and/or AWS credentials such as Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or Senior CWI (SCWI) credentials. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Working knowledge of generative AI technologies. Understanding of data privacy, security, and ethical considerations related to AI. Ability to validate AI outputs against technical references to ensure accuracy and reliability. Demonstrated experience implementing AI and/or data driven projects in business from concept through deployment. A working knowledge of assessment principles including exam development and psychometrics. Experience overseeing the development, review, and quality assurance of technical content. Working Conditions and Required Physical Abilities When working on site, this position is in a quiet to moderately noisy indoor office environment. Some travel is required. Individuals in this type of position must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, use of fingers to handle, feel or operate objects and write. Must have the physical capabilities to move about the office and to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to personal computers, calculators, copy and fax machines. Must be able to remain seated at a keyboard or desk for extended periods. Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push/pull articles weighing up to 20 lbs.
