About
We are developing a temperature-controlled equipment product for the commercial food service industry. The product is in active development with a manufacturing partner in place and an industrial designer currently engaged on exterior refinement.
We need an experienced embedded systems engineer to deliver a complete, production-intent electrical and control system package, including flashable production firmware, ready for direct handoff to our manufacturer. This is not a prototype. The final deliverable is a complete production package our manufacturer uses to source, fabricate, and assemble. You must have experience delivering this level of output.
An important note on design sensibility: The physical interface concept is being led by our industrial designer, but we want an embedded systems partner who can engage intelligently on control panel layout, user interaction, display selection, and the relationship between the electronics and the user-facing design. If you have experience designing both the electronics and the physical control interface for manufactured products, please say so in your response. This crossover capability is highly valued.

SCOPE SUMMARY
The control system manages dual input power modes with independent control logic for each mode. The system includes PID based temperature control, user adjustable setpoint, a display interface showing temperature and system status, dual thermistor input for temperature control and independent safety monitoring, hardware and firmware over-temperature protection, and a hardware interlock between power modes.
KEY DELIVERABLES
Complete electrical schematic and component BOM with UL recognized safety critical components. Custom PCB design with manufacturer ready Gerber files. Production firmware delivered as flashable code with toolchain documentation. Wiring diagram and harness specification. Thermal management assessment for all switching components. Complete production package compiled for direct manufacturer handoff.
COORDINATION
This engagement runs parallel with a concurrent industrial design contractor and our overseas manufacturing partner. You will coordinate directly with the industrial designer on the physical panel envelope and with the manufacturer on component availability and assembly feasibility. Comfort working with Chinese manufacturers on electromechanical products is required.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Demonstrated experience designing control systems for commercial or consumer thermal appliances such as kitchen equipment, food holding, HVAC, or similar thermal management products. Has delivered manufacturer ready production packages and seen them through factory integration. Experience with PID temperature control and multi-input power architectures. Experience with both the electronics and the physical control panel design for manufactured products is important. Portfolio showing shipped products, not prototypes or dev boards.
TIMELINE AND BUDGET
Target kickoff mid to late March 2026. Approximately 5–7 weeks through final deliverable. Budget range is $5,000–$10,000 fixed price, milestone based. If you have clear technical justification for exceeding this range, we are open to seeing your reasoning.
NEXT STEPS
Qualified candidates will receive a mutual NDA for execution, followed by a detailed technical brief with full product specifications, heating system architecture, interface requirements, safety specifications, and manufacturer coordination details.
Contract duration of 1 to 3 months.
