Your Opportunity:
The SHC is more than just a "hospital", it is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus includes a YMCA and retail services. Unit 68 is a 36 bed Acute Care Inpatient Medical/Surgical Unit that provides care to General Medicine and General Surgical Patients. The LPN works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/clients. The LPN is accountable for his/her own practice, according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta. The LPN practices to full scope on Unit 68. The LPN demonstrates competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care for patients in the Inpatient Unit in accordance with all elements of the current job description for Licensed Practical Nurses. Direct nursing care includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation for assigned patients and works in consultation with RN colleagues and others to meet the needs of more complex patients. The focus of nursing care is to facilitate physical recovery and/or promote health within a fast paced and dynamic teaching environment. Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
1–2-year acute care Medical/Surgical Nursing experience within the last 5 years required. PCA Certification required. TNA/TPN monitoring knowledge required. Central Line Certification required. Chest Tube care and maintenance knowledge required. Previous experience preceptoring, orientating, and/or mentoring new staff and/or students preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills. Knowledge and use of Connect Care and AHS email required. Demonstrated effective patient teaching experience (both written and verbal). Strong critical thinking skills demonstrated.
