In this role, the Senior Engineer will lead comprehensive design reviews to confirm functionality, sound engineering practice, and adherence to regulatory and customer requirements. As a key technical resource, they will help shape project direction, provide clarity on complex challenges, and ensure that engineering outputs meet the highest standards of safety and quality.
The successful candidate will also contribute to continuous improvement within Engineered Solutions, helping to enhance capabilities, processes, and deliverables that support broader business objectives. In addition, they will uphold compliance requirements mandated by Engineering Regulatory Bodies and Safety Authorities while effectively managing technical risks, liabilities, and intellectual property considerations on behalf of Finning.

Major Job Functions:
- Monitor technical scope, schedule design work and ensure accuracy of work. Work together with other departments achieving project targets. Maintain a proactive approach about obstacles that could affect the cost, quality and timeliness of project delivery (30%)
- Review all engineering inquiries and prepare timely responses to stakeholders. (20%)
- Identify cost-reduction and functionality improvement opportunities (20%)
- Lead, mentor and coach project team members. (10%)
- Liaison with the project and operation teams to provide support and guidance as necessary. Interface with suppliers, packagers, customer and regulatory authority throughout the project. (10%)

- Must possess superior engineering skills and be capable of interacting with all engineering disciplines. Able to apply electrical engineering techniques to concept design, detailed estimates, component verification, troubleshooting, and failure analysis

- Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner and maintain effective relationships with internal departments and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
- Understands and adheres to Finning policies and procedures, including safety
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor or Master of Engineering degree from an accredited engineering institution
- Registered Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with EGBC, APEGA, APEGS, NAPEG, or Engineers Yukon
- 8 to 15 years of electrical engineering design experience with a focus on power generation and generator set controls
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in Power Generation and Power System design, with emphasis on diesel and natural gas generator sets across sectors such as Mining, Oil and Gas, Utilities, and Critical Infrastructure including Hospitals, Airports, and Data Centers
- Experience with the integration of renewable energy sources into power generation systems
- Knowledge and experience with switchgear, transfer switches, MCCs, VFDs, and load banks
- Experience in powerhouse design, including HVAC control systems and other balance of plant equipment
- Strong understanding of generator and power system controls, protection schemes, grounding methods, electrical and mechanical design principles, and equipment sizing
- Detailed knowledge of generator control modes including droop, isochronous, load sharing, and base load
- Experience programming and commissioning generator control systems from manufacturers such as Woodward, DEIF, and ComAp
- Experience programming and commissioning automation and control systems including PLC, HMI, and SCADA platforms such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, and Schneider
- Proficiency in drafting electrical schematics using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical
- Advanced knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry practices including CSA, CEC, IEEE, and cUL
- Strong proficiency in MS Office and internal systems, with expert level capability in MS Excel and advanced capability in MS Project
- Experience evaluating cost options for complex technical solutions
Assets
- Knowledge and experience with Data Centers and their backup power systems
- Knowledge and experience with Medium Voltage and High Voltage design
- Knowledge and experience with Protection and Coordination Studies
- Knowledge and experience with grounding and bonding design
