About the Position:

The Controller -US Operations supports Walter's Group goals of growing the business and being an industry leader by providing effective leadership to the financial and administrative functions and high-quality delivery of their respective services.  This includes conducting financial analysis and preparing financial reports; maintaining and enhancing an effective system of accounting; managing the payroll system and ensuring organizational compliance by maintaining accurate, complete and up-to-date records. Responsibilities include:

  • US Project Billing package review, accounting for revenue and monitoring accounts receivable collection
    • Oversee collections and billings, ensuring the company remains penalty free and bills are paid and receivables collected on time. Advises staff on when to take legal action on late collections.
    • Oversee the preparation of billing to clients based on information provided by the Project Manager(s), ensuring the invoice accommodates customers' paper / email / online billing requirements/financial systems to prevent collection delays.
    • Oversee the issuing of Lien Waivers, Bill of Sale and other legal documents that may be required (legal form) with each invoice to ensure all sub-contractors are paid.
  • Review the US AR invoices vs. paid sheet for each project and review US project requirements, in preparation for the development of monthly financial reports and for use by the Project management team.
  • Transfer Pricing revenue recognition. Conduct monthly analysis of project billing activity to ensure related party transactions follow transfer pricing policy. Prepare monthly management fee invoice. Conducts an annual review of the transfer pricing policy and supporting documentation to ensure that it meets accounting and cross border taxation authority laws and recommendations
  • Oversee and conduct financial analysis and the production of monthly Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Analysis for the US operating entity – Walters Field Services USA LLC
  • Oversee and conduct financial analysis and the production of monthly Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Cash Flow Analysis for any New Ventures assigned.
  • Assists with the production of the monthly financial reporting package to the Board of Directors.
  • Monthly procedures related to accuracy of records including account reconciliations, month end checklists, outputs from Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll.
  • Works with the US operating team for timely delivery of month end results and a month end calendar.
  • Based on US Site operations, work with our US Agent, CSC to research, initiate required state registrations. Responsible for maintaining the license portfolio – renewals and updating changing corporate information.
  • Seek continuous improvements with processes, corporate oversight and reduce corporate risk.

  • Head office in Hamilton ON.

Position Requirements:

Required

  • A university degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with responsibility for an aspect of corporate financial affairs.
  • CPA, CA (or equivalent) designation.
  • Full accounting cycle experience.

Desired

  • Experience in the steel construction industry as Financial Manager or Senior Accountant.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and US Corporate and Sales/Use Taxes
  • Proven track record of excellence

Compensation Package:

  • Salary: $100,000-$120,000/Year
