JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the general repair, maintenance and replacement required at City of Markham facilities, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical duties, mechanical repairs, HVAC systems and other maintenance related duties.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete facility maintenance and repairs, including plumbing, electrical, door locks, carpeting, rough carpentry, and other duties as assigned 
  • Operates heavy equipment and power tools   
  • Sets own schedules, priorities and plans projects  
  • Involved with coordinating resources and contractor materials  
  • Direct and liaises with contractors   
  • Conducts annual and monthly inspections   
  • Shift work including weekends may be required 

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Related College diploma or trade certification (plumbing, electrical, mechanical HVAC)  
  • 3-5 years of related experience  
  • Ability to complete specialized work in plumbing, electrical, woodworking is required   
  • Knowledge of welding and building automation systems is an asset   
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and to identify customer needs in a timely way along with the ability to either bring effective resolution to the Customer concern/s or escalate the issue/s to management as appropriate  
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with colleagues as assigned, including the ability to support one another when required and
     communicate positively and effectively with one another in order to provide service excellence   
  • Intermediate computer skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision   
  • Valid class 'G' Ontario driver's licence. As a condition of employment you will be required to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract (No demerit points plus no more than 2 infractions - max of one moving and one non-moving conviction)   
  • Certification in Standard First Aid with CPR C and propane handling is an asset
