Chemical Operator - By Products

Reports to:  Area Manager 

Job Type:  Permanent 

Location:  Nanticoke, ON 

Salary Range:  $80,000-$110,000

Job Requirements

  • The ability to exercise judgment and gain experience to operate or support the operation of a production process
  • The ability to use considerable judgment to control and understand various processes, and the care and dexterity to operate equipment to move products, materials, and equipment
  • The ability to exercise a high degree of care and attention for the materials, products, and equipment to protect and maintain the various facilities
  • The ability to understand, plan, and maintain the efficient flow of materials and production, including the ability and fitness to perform all physical duties of the required functions to maintain an acceptable level of productivity in primary production and/ or rolling mill environment

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in an industrial, chemical, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • A valid driver's license and vehicle is required to work at this facility

Job Skills and Knowledge

  • Temperature Tolerance: The ability to withstand extreme temperatures; hot and cold, indoors and outdoors
  • Reaction Time: The ability to quickly respond to process upsets
  • Static Strength: The ability to exert significant muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects
  • Trunk Strength: The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time, including bending and stooping
  • Dynamic Strength: The ability to exert muscle force at intervals throughout a work shift. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue
  • Agility: The ability to negotiate different areas of the plant, including climbing stairs and ladders, and moving around barriers
  • Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move and react
  • Mental Capacity: To Learn a process and make decisions based on working knowledge and procedures

Work Environment

  • The job is within a heavy industrial environment, and you may be required to work within various areas of the facility. Depending on the area the environmental conditions may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, wet or noisy
  • Safety is our highest priority, and safety procedures and guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes wearing personal protective equipment, such as hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, respirators, flame retardant clothing and safety shoes with metatarsal protection at all times during a work shift
  • Employees work in a unionized, highly industrial setting
  • Our Lake Erie Works facility operates 24 hours per day, 365 days a year with varying hours of work including 8- and 12-hour rotating shifts
  • You may be required to work different days of the week each time you rotate shifts including the requirement to work weekends and holidays
  • The position may require you to work overtime as scheduled
  • Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team environment
