Senior Network Engineer - MSP Established and trusted IT Managed Services company have an urgent requirement for an experienced customer focused Network Engineer to join their team based at their beautifully refurbished offices located perfectly in Chandlers Ford. My client is an ISO accredited growing managed IT support company based in Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, Hampshire providing IT support, Cyber Security, VoIP and Cloud services to businesses across the South Coast and beyond. The Role My client is urgently seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Network Engineer. The position is of a full time and permanent nature and will be predominantly office based with some flexible hybrid working available. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of supporting IT networks and systems on various scales and ideally would have worked in a similar role within a Managed Service (MSP) and gained at least 5 years of commercial experience. With the exception of the businesses CTO and Technical Director, this individual will act as the most senior technician within the business for Network related issues and support. Key Duties & Responsibilities Advanced Technical Support: Provide expert-level technical support to address complex issues escalated from lower tiers (1st and 2nd line support). Network Infrastructure Maintenance: Support and configure Layer 2 and Layer 3 elements including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs. Project Delivery: Lead and execute strategic projects such as Microsoft 365 migrations, firewall upgrades, and infrastructure rollouts. Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices, manage firewall policies (NAT, VIPs), and ensure systems meet SLA and data security requirements. Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and training to junior engineers to improve overall team capability. Client Site Visits: Attend customer locations for physical installations, complex troubleshooting, or emergency break-fix scenarios. Incident Management: Take ownership of escalated incidents, ensuring they are resolved efficiently and effectively within agreed-upon service level agreements. Problem Management: Identify underlying root causes of recurring incidents and implement long-term solutions to prevent their recurrence. Conduct thorough root cause analysis and document findings for future reference. Change Management: Assess and implement changes to IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Technical Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation. Customer Support: Interface with external vendors and third-party service providers to resolve technical issues and procure necessary hardware or software. Bringing forward key issues/changes/topics to monthly team meetings. Create and maintain quality documentation on standard problem resolutions, fixes and updating of the technical knowledge base, by following the IT Glue documentation guide. Responsible for adding accurate and detailed notes into PSA (Halo) as they occur. Skills and Experience My clients IT support engineers need a strong blend of technical expertise (hard skills) and interpersonal abilities (soft skills) to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently while providing excellent customer service. Core Networking : Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), and connectivity (SD-WAN, MPLS). Security Platforms : Extensive experience with firewalls such as Fortinet or WatchGuard. Cloud & Virtualisation: Proficiency in Microsoft Azure (IaaS), Microsoft 365 administration, and virtualisation platforms like VMware or Hyper-V. Server Infrastructure: Advanced troubleshooting of Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP. MSP Tooling: Familiarity with ITSM and monitoring tools such as Halo PSA, ConnectWise, NinjaOne, or SolarWinds. Microsoft Exchange On Prem and Online configuration and support experience Router configuration and support experience (Cisco, HP, Draytek) HP ProLiant & Dell PowerEdge Server Hardware support experience Storage technologies (NAS, NetApps, Synology) Strong understanding of Office 365 Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure Strong understanding of Microsoft Intune Strong understanding of SSL Certificates My client offers a competitive salary and benefits alongside a superb working environment within a friendly, professional and supportive team and there are excellent opportunities for further development within the business (pathway to Technical Directorship).
