Great Gulf is seeking a talented and experienced AI Solutions Engineer to join our team in Toronto. 

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role responsible for designing, building, and deploying AI-powered systems across the organization. You will work directly in code while guiding junior AI developers and influencing broader technical direction.

You'll translate real business challenges into production-ready AI applications, embedding intelligent capabilities into enterprise systems and internal platforms while establishing best practices for quality, security, scalability, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities:

Hands-On Solution Design & Development

  • Design and actively build AI solutions, including prototypes, proofs of concept, and production implementations
  • Develop and review AI components such as:
    • LLM-powered applications (prompting, RAG, agents)
    • Natural language interfaces for querying operational data
    • API integrations with AI platforms and services
  • Write and review code for AI services, APIs, and integrations
  • Troubleshoot prompt performance, data quality, and system-level issues

 AI Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Define end-to-end AI solution designs, from API integration to deployment and monitoring
  • Establish reusable technical patterns, reference implementations, and coding standards for AI solutions
  • Make pragmatic technical decisions balancing speed, cost, risk, and long-term maintainability
  • Lead technical design reviews for AI initiatives

Platform Integration

  • Integrate AI capabilities into existing enterprise and internal platforms
  • Design APIs and services to embed AI into operational workflows
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure AI components align with broader system architecture
  • Support legacy modernization efforts, embedding AI into migration work

Mentorship & Team Enablement

  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to junior AI developers and engineers
  • Conduct code reviews, design walkthroughs, and prompt evaluations
  • Support skill development in LLM usage, prompt design, RAG patterns, and AI debugging
  • Help establish development workflows, tooling, and best practices for the AI team

Governance, Quality & Operations

  • Implement prompt evaluation, monitoring, and lifecycle management practices
  • Ensure AI solutions meet standards for security, privacy, compliance, and data governance
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to model performance, bias, and reliability
  • Support responsible and ethical AI usage across solutions

Vendor & Technology Evaluation

  • Evaluate AI platforms, tools, and vendors from a hands-on technical perspective
  • Build and assess proofs of concept for third-party solutions
  • Make informed build vs. buy recommendations
  • Operationalize approved tools: SSO integration, usage monitoring, cost management

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work directly with business teams to clarify requirements and validate AI use cases
  • Communicate technical tradeoffs and implementation details clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Support adoption and operational use of AI solutions
  • Provide technical guidance to AI Council on tool approvals and architectural decisions

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, solution engineering, or systems design
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying LLM-powered solutions
  • Strong practical experience with:
    • Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and RAG architectures
    • Building applications that query relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
    • and TypeScript
    • API design and integration patterns
  • Experience deploying solutions on Azure (App Service, Container Apps, or similar)
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and code review skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with legacy modernization or incremental migration patterns
  • Experience embedding AI into existing enterprise or in-house platforms
  • Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers or AI developers
  • Familiarity with enterprise SSO (Okta, Entra ID) and security requirements
  • Experience in construction, real estate, or other asset-heavy industries
  • Exposure to AI governance, risk management, or compliance frameworks
  • Experience with PHP applications is considered a bonus

Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment – sitting/working at desk/computer in a shared office space and/or remote working from home
Compensation
  • Pay Range: $120,000 – $150,000
