About the Opportunity
This opportunity plays a key role in supporting an organization's digital transformation and innovation strategy. As the Data & Analytics Specialist, you'll leverage data to inform strategic decision-making, improve operational efficiency, and enhance member engagement across the organization.
Working closely with IT, leadership, and business teams, you'll design scalable data solutions, deliver trusted analytics, and implement strong governance frameworks. Your work will help embed a culture of ethical, data-driven decision-making and position data as a strategic asset within a complex, member-focused organization in the public or non-profit sector.

Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Governance (20%)
Support the development and continuous enhancement of the Institute's data strategy, governance framework, and analytics roadmap, aligned with organizational goals and digital transformation priorities.
Establish and maintain data governance policies, including access control, retention, and data quality standards.
Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and ethical standards, including PCI, CASL, PIPEDA, and GDPR.
Monitor and improve data quality, integrity, and interoperability across all systems.
Champion best practices for data stewardship, ethics, and accountability across the organization.
Develop and maintain metadata management and master data management processes, including data dictionaries, to ensure consistent data standards.
Implement and oversee data catalog initiatives to improve data accessibility and understanding.
Conduct regular Data Privacy Impact Assessments to ensure compliance with privacy regulations and proactively manage potential risks.
Data Infrastructure & Architecture (30%)
Design and build data pipelines to ingest, transform, and prepare data from internal and external sources.
Develop and manage scalable data environments, including data lakes, warehouses, or lakehouses, to support analytics, reporting, and system integration.
Automate data workflows to improve efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
Collaborate with the IT team to ensure the sustainability, scalability, and security of the data architecture.
Research, evaluate, and pilot emerging data, analytics, and AI tools to advance organizational capabilities.
Analytics Development (35%)
Develop clean, well-modeled datasets and self-service analytics tools for use across departments.
Build and deploy dashboards, reports, and analytical models that enable data-driven decision-making.
Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to uncover trends, predict outcomes, and support strategic initiatives.
Translate analytical findings into clear, impactful recommendations for decision-makers.
Collaboration & Strategic Enablement (15%)
Partner with business units to understand data needs, define requirements, and co-design solutions that address strategic and operational challenges.
Contribute to the Institute's data and AI strategy by identifying opportunities for innovation and value creation.
Support change management and capability-building initiatives to enhance data literacy across the organization.
Stay current with emerging tools and methodologies in data engineering, analytics, and AI.
Design and deliver training programs and workshops to advance staff data literacy and analytics skills.
Serve as a liaison between IT, business units, and leadership to translate business challenges into actionable data solutions.
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field
Cloud or data engineering certifications (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) are an advantage
Minimum 3 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or data engineering
Demonstrated experience in data strategy, governance, and analytics delivery within a complex organization
Hands-on experience in data pipelines, data architecture, and scalable analytics solutions
Proficiency with BI tools and programming or analytics languages such as SQL, Python, and R
Experience working with CRM or enterprise systems
Ongoing training or certifications in data analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, AI/ML, or cloud platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) are valued
Experience using modern analytics tools and collaborating across cross-functional teams
Familiarity with association management systems (e.g., iMIS), API integrations (e.g., D2L Brightspace, Informz), and member-based data environments is considered an asset
