About
M1 Composites is a recognized leader in engineering, manufacturing, and repair of composite and sheet metal structures for the commercial and defense aviation industry. We support major airlines and government operators and offer our teams exposure to a wide range of aircraft platforms. As part of our continued growth, we are strengthening our internal tooling design capabilities to support both manufacturing and repair operations.
At M1, the mission comes first: quality, safety, and rapid turnaround time are at the heart of everything we do.
About The Role
We are looking for a Tool Design Engineer to design, develop, and support tooling used in the manufacture and repair of aerospace components. This role bridges engineering, manufacturing, and quality by ensuring tooling solutions are robust, manufacturable, compliant, and adapted to a regulated aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
Designing and developing tooling such as molds, jigs, fixtures, templates, assembly aids, and repair tools for composite and metallic components
Translating engineering data, repairing data, and manufacturing requirements into practical tooling solutions
Creating 3D models, drawings, and technical documentation for tooling using CAD software
Supporting tool from concept through fabrication, validation, and implementation on the shop floor
Collaborating with manufacturing to ensure tooling is ergonomic, safe, and fit for purposes
Supporting repair activities by developing tooling solutions aligned with approved repair data
Ensuring tooling designs comply with applicable aerospace standards, internal procedures, and regulatory requirements (Transport Canada, FAA, EASA)
Supporting first article inspections, tooling qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives
Providing technical support for tooling issues, modifications, and root cause analysis
Maintaining configuration control, revision management, and proper documentation of tooling designs
Your Ideal Background
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
5 to 8 years of experience in tooling design within an aerospace manufacturing or MRO environment.
Experience with composite and sheet metal structures is strongly preferred.
You are comfortable working with CAD tools and engineering documentation, and you have a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and materials.
You are practical, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
The position requires a very good knowledge of English, both oral and written. The position involves reading and understanding technical documents in English on a daily basis, especially from international companies, as well as regular communication with customers, suppliers and other international stakeholders.
