PROJECT COORDINATOR
NSERC Chair for Inclusion in Science and Engineering, Atlantic
School of Science and the Environment Grenfell Campus, Memorial University
(Part-Time Contractual Position, 20 hours per week to September 1, 2027)

PROGRAM
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Chairs for Inclusion in Science and Engineering (CISE) program focuses on strengthening recruitment and retention in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Through a wide range of programs spanning K-12, postsecondary education, professional pathways, and community engagement, the initiative supports participation across both regional and national levels. Our goal is to reach and support diverse underrepresented groups, including women and gender minorities, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, neurodiverse individuals, racialized groups, members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and students in remote and rural areas.
DUTIES
Reporting to the Chair, Dr. Svetlana Barkanova, this position has the overall responsibility for the administrative management of the t wo-year program on inclusion in science and engineering funded by NSERC. The position will be responsible for: day-t o-day management of activities related to the Chair projects; supporting the Chair agenda on equity, diversity and inclusion across Newfoundland and Labrador; identifying and engaging with appropriate community partners and participants to attend events developed by the Chair; prepare/develop materials for promotion of the Chair projects and programs to various university and community partners; organize/support engagement activities on behalf of the chair throughout the province including identifying and engaging appropriate community partners and participant s, booking facilities, organizing agendas and inviting participants from university and community; coordinate with HR and the Chair on hiring positions and recruitment of student assistants as required; work closely with the researchers and institutional finance officers to ensure all expenditures follow the policies and guidelines of NSERC and Memorial University; compile and submit financial reports as required (working with the relevant university administrative units); provide budget updates and overviews as required, including supporting financial reporting to NSERC; coordinate and organize all project team meetings as well as record and share meeting minutes; liaise with researchers, university faculty and community partners, schools, and other stakeholders on the project; help coordinate and manage outreach and Knowledge Mobilization activities, including supporting and organizing events related to the Chairs project; coordinating media inquiries, communications with NSERC as well as project partners and community organizations; work with partners to ensure all deliverables from NSERC are met; other duties related to the project as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years' experience in project management, events coordination or community engagement; completion of an undergraduate degree preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Social Sciences, or a related area; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The ideal candidate will have experience and skills in project management and/or event coordination and/or community engagement and possess strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Proposal writing and budget management experience is an asset. Candidates should be highly motivated, able to work independently and have a demonstrated ability to engage and build relationships with key partners and faculty, as well as externally between the university and larger community. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, related experience in in STEM, and French proficiency are the assets.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The successful applicant must be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador and will work mostly from home. Local and regional travel is required to participate and provide support for conferences, workshops, and project management meetings. Frequent (5+ times per year) evening or weekend work may be required to meet operational requirements. The successful candidate must sign a confidentiality agreement. A satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check will be required prior to hire, which will be reimbursed by CISE Atlantic.
SALARY $64,361- $87,763 per annum (Management and Professional)
