Salary: Circa £60,000

What You'll Be Doing:

As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of complex steel structures that support submarine builds. Your expertise will help shape the future of our engineering projects!

  • Design & Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to analyze and design intricate steel structures.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Apply your understanding of regulations beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER and weld specifications.
  • Technical Proficiency: Leverage computer-based analytical techniques, including finite element analysis and CAD modeling (Abaqus, S-Frame).
  • Support Manufacturing: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation of submarine structures and components.
  • Concept Development: Contribute to the production of concept drawings and technical outputs that meet contractual requirements.
  • Quality Assurance: Take responsibility for approvals and checking analysis and outputs.
Your Skills and Experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience in structural calculations.
  • Understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics.
  • Experience in developing structural requirements and V&V evidence.
  • Proficiency in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
  • Ability to present technical arguments clearly and simply.
  • Previous experience in checking and approving work.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Abaqus FEA and Simcenter, or a willingness to learn.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or on the path to becoming Chartered).
  • Experience in generating toolset/calculation templates.

About the Specialist Structures Department:

As a Principal Engineer, you will be part of a dynamic dual-function team (design and engineering) of around 14 talented individuals. Together, we deliver engineering assessments that support the build process, collaborating closely with design colleagues to develop equipment and provide operational support for safety-critical systems. We also offer local commuting support and relocation packages for eligible roles.
