Salary: Circa £60,000
Your Mission:As a Principal Structural Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design and analysis of complex steel structures that support submarine builds. Your expertise will ensure that we meet the highest standards in engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:- Design & Analysis: Utilize Eurocodes, British Standards, and BAE standards to analyze and design intricate steel structures.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Apply your understanding of regulations such as LOLER and weld specifications to ensure compliance.
- Technical Proficiency: Use advanced analytical techniques, including finite element analysis and CAD modeling (Abaqus, S-Frame).
- Support Manufacturing: Assist in the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation of submarine structures and components.
- Concept Development: Contribute to the production of concept drawings and technical outputs that align with contractual requirements.
- Quality Assurance: Take responsibility for approvals and checking analysis outputs.
Essential:
- Proven experience in structural calculations.
- Strong understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics.
- Experience in developing structural requirements and V&V evidence.
- Proficient in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software.
- Ability to present technical arguments clearly and effectively.
- Previous experience in checking and approving work.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with Abaqus FEA and Simcenter, or a willingness to learn.
- Chartered Engineer status (or on the path to becoming Chartered).
- Experience in generating toolset/calculation templates.

You will be part of a dynamic dual-function team (design and engineering) of around 14 professionals. Together, we deliver engineering assessments that support the build process, collaborating closely with design colleagues to develop equipment and provide operational support for safety-critical systems. We also offer local commuting support and relocation packages, subject to eligibility criteria.
