Senior Technical Project Manager
4FMV Inc
- Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
- Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
About
Engagement type: Long-term Contract (~30 hrs/week, Highly Variable)
Duration: 12+ months (Strong potential for Temp-to-Perm)
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a premier, Silicon Valley-based engineering and design consultancy that specializes in bringing complex, high-stakes medical devices and IoT products to life. Their clients range from stealth startups to Fortune 500 MedTech giants.
This is not a role for ongoing maintenance or legacy products. You will be managing new product development from concept through to manufacturing. You will serve as the central hub of a highly skilled cross-functional team, turning cutting-edge engineering prototypes into fully realized, FDA-compliant medical devices.
If you thrive in a dynamic environment where you wear multiple hats, work alongside elite engineers, and want your fingerprints on technology that actively improves patient outcomes, this is for you.
What You Will Do
Own the Project: Act as the single point of accountability for complex medical device design projects, balancing scope, schedule, and budget.
Bridge the Gap: Translate highly technical engineering challenges into clear client communications, and vice versa.
Drive Execution: Manage the day-to-day workflow of firmware, hardware, and mechanical engineers to hit critical design milestones.
Navigate Compliance: Guide the project through the complex regulatory landscape. While you will be supported by QA/Regulatory frameworks, you will take ownership of compiling the Design History File (DHF), managing risk traceability, and ensuring the engineering team's output strictly complies with FDA 510(k), ISO 13485, and IEC 62304 standards.
Client Facing: Might have to travel 1-2 times per year to client sites (primarily in the US/California) for critical kick-offs and milestone reviews.
Who You Are
Experienced: You bring roughly 8–10 years of total project management experience, with at least the last 3–4 years strictly dedicated to the Medical Device sector. (Note: We care more about your specific knowledge and ability to execute than arbitrary years on a resume).
Technical: You have a strong foundational understanding of hardware and software engineering. You don't need to write code or design PCBs, but you need to hold your own in a room full of senior engineers.
High EQ: You possess exceptional emotional intelligence and people skills. You know how to motivate technical teams, manage client expectations during setbacks, and drive consensus without micro-managing.
Adaptable: You are comfortable with variable hours. Some weeks will require 40 hours during a critical sprint, while others may only require 20. You manage your time like a pro.
Why This Role?
The Work: Tackle diverse, genuinely interesting engineering challenges—no two projects are exactly the same.
The Team: Work alongside some of the sharpest minds in hardware and biomedical engineering.
The Flexibility: Primarily remote work with variable hours that allow for a high degree of professional autonomy.
