About

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a well-established and growing company in the construction industry, for a Controller to join their leadership team based in Vaughan, Ontario. This role is full-time on-site.
This role is hands-on and operational, with direct responsibility for Accounts Payable, day-to-day accounting, and financial controls, while partnering closely with the Group Controller to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and scalable processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong accounting leader who thrives in a construction / project-based environment and enjoys building structure across growing entities.
Key Responsibilities include:
Accounting & Financial Operations
• Oversee full-cycle accounting for the company and assigned portfolio companies
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Ensure accuracy of general ledger, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedure
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
• Lead the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
• Partner with operational leaders to monitor project performance, job costing, and profitability.
• Deliver timely, data-driven financial insights to support executive decision-making.
Accounts Payable & Transactional Oversight
• Lead and supervise Accounts Payable activities across entities
• Ensure timely processing of vendor invoices, payments, and expense reports
• Monitor cash disbursements and support cash flow planning
• Resolve AP discrepancies and vendor inquiries Reporting & Compliance
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes in collaboration with the Group Controller
• Ensure compliance with provincial and federal tax requirements (HST/GST, payroll, etc.)
Collaboration & Leadership
• Act as a key business partner to operations and project teams
• Provide guidance and oversight to junior accounting staff
• Escalate risks, issues, and insights proactively to the Group Controller
Qualifications
• CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) preferred.
• Minimum 8–10 years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience.
• Experience in the construction, infrastructure, or engineering sectors strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to manage multi-entity consolidations and complex financial structures.
• Hands-on experience with mergers and acquisitions (due diligence and integration).
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with construction accounting software.
