The ABB Measurement & Analytics factory in Quebec is a world leader in the field of spectroscopy. Our contract engineering service is the largest Canadian supplier of space‑borne optical sensors used, among other things, for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and for global weather forecasting. Our factory is also recognized for its expertise in developing and manufacturing a variety of products that meet numerous industrial analysis needs every day.
By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec City, you will actively contribute to our customers' projects as well as to the research and development of our technology. You will be part of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team.
You will participate in various mechanical design tasks within the Measurement and Analytics business unit in Quebec City (Canada). Reporting to the opto‑mechanical group and supervised by the team's designers and engineers, you will be responsible for designing optical instruments in close collaboration with other teams (systems, electronics, testing, and integration) using the CREO (Pro/ENGINEER) software.
The mechanical design intern is responsible for the quality of the 3‑D design and technical drawings of the different components. They are involved in design, prototyping, but also integration and testing for optical measurement instruments used in multiple industrial fields as well as in aerospace and defense.
The ideal intern demonstrates strong attention to detail, curiosity, and an interest in teamwork.
Your Responsibilities
Design parts and test fixtures in compliance with requirements, costs, and deadlines
Create 2D drawings and 3D opto‑mechanical designs using Creo
Support integration and testing activities
Select and optimize manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, bending, 3‑D printing, and others)
Design complex opto‑mechanical instruments
Produce drawings following the ASME Y14.5M geometric tolerancing standard
Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews
Apply internal product management procedures (Windchill)
Occasionally support production
Your Profile
College‑level studies in mechanical engineering technology
Basic knowledge of materials and mechanical manufacturing processes
Knowledge of product data management (PDM, Windchill)
Experience with 3‑D CAD software; experience with CREO (Pro/ENGINEER) is an asset
Experience working in a laboratory and prototyping environment (asset)
Knowledge of "Design for Manufacturing and Assembly" (DFM/DFA) principles (asset)
Good oral and written knowledge of English (asset)
Bilingualism (French/English): French is required. English is also required for regular communication with customers outside Quebec.
