About This Role
The R&D Project Manager is the strategic coordinator responsible for driving energy storage R&D initiatives from early concept through validated, market‑ ready products. This role owns the planning, execution, and cross‑ functional alignment of all R&D programs that support new product development, certification readiness, and continuous improvement of energy storage systems.
The position ensures that new products are developed in accordance with established key performance indicators, including project timeline, budget, technical requirements, and certification milestones. By orchestrating collaboration across engineering, certification, testing, and manufacturing teams, the R&D Project Manager ensures that innovation progresses in a controlled, compliant, and commercially aligned manner.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Manage R&D projects from initiation to industrialization:
Review the product roadmap and develop the high‑ level portfolio of R&D projects.
Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables for R&D initiatives.
Develop detailed project schedules, resource plans, and budgets.
Monitor progress against milestones and adjust plans to ensure timely delivery.
Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, lab, certification, supply chain) to align efforts.
Map technical, economic and legal risks and estimate their criticality level and implement mitigation plan.
Stakeholder Communication
Act as the primary point of contact for manufacturing and R&D partners.
Provide regular updates on R&D projects to the technical director and the rest of the ESS management team (project status, risks, and next steps).
Act as a liaison between R&D, engineering, certificate and marketing regarding all the development projects.
Manage expectations by setting technical boundaries and clarifying deliverables.
Risk And Compliance Management
Identify technical and operational risks and dependencies early and implement mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with certification requirements (UL, CSA, IEC, NFPA).
Coordinate internal certificate teams and external labs and certification bodies
Maintain documentation for audits, certifications, and client assurance.
Track evolving standards and integrate them into project workflows
Global Organization
Participate in the NAM ESS periodical meeting.
Ensure a monthly report to the manager.
Ensure the dissemination of information at different levels.
Develop close collaboration with product development (engineering, R&D, certification), pre-sales/sales, marketing and service teams.
Contribute to long-term product roadmaps and industrialization readiness.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, And Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical & Power Electronics Engineering.
Over 10 years of professional work experience in Electrical Systems Projects Management.
Demonstrated experience in Power Generation or Battery Energy Storage sectors is a plus.
Ability to manage complex technical projects and to propose fitting solutions.
Electrical systems engineering.
Electrical systems and installation standards.
Energy storage system knowledge (components, applications, operation sequence, etc.).
Projects management processes, methods and tools (Scheduling, Databases …)
Strong leadership, interpersonal skills and networking/collaboration abilities
Client-centric, proactively anticipates and acts.
Ability to federate multiple activities in this transversal role.
Communicates clearly and professionally with industry partners, customers, prospective customers, and all levels of employees.
Additional Specific Requirements
Availability for frequent travels to national & international destinations (e.g., USA and Europe).
Must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel.
Project Management Professional (PMP certification).
Compensation range: $120,000 – $140,000 CAD
