About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager to provide leadership across multiple asphalt paving projects from pre-construction through close-out. This role is responsible for driving project performance schedule, cost, quality, safety, and client satisfaction while supporting the development of project teams and aligning with the company's Core Purpose and Core Values. The Senior Project Manager plays a key role in risk management, client relationships, margin accountability, and continuous improvement across the project management group.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Project Managers and Project Coordinators across the full project lifecycle
- Oversee multiple asphalt paving projects from pre-construction through close-out
- Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety targets
- Proactively identify and resolve project risks, potential claims, and disputes
- Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, cost controls, and change orders
- Maintain strong margin accountability and financial performance
- Provide contract interpretation guidance and coaching, including notices, RFIs, change events, claims, and close-out documentation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, municipalities, consultants, and inspectors
- Oversee project schedules, sequencing, and coordination with internal teams and subcontractors
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards, safety policies, and regulatory requirements (OHS, environmental, municipal specifications)
- Support business development through client retention, repeat work, and post-project reviews
- Provide senior-level reporting on project performance, cash flow, production metrics, and staffing needs
- Contribute to continuous improvement of systems, processes, and best practices
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of project management experience in the road construction industry
- P.Eng. or CET with PMP designation, or equivalent experience
- Proven leadership experience managing project teams and coordinating with field operations
- Strong understanding of municipal and commercial asphalt paving projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, contracts, and risk
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace applications
- Strong organizational, delegation, and communication skills
- Ability to build and maintain strong client, consultant, and internal relationships
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with clean abstract
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends during peak construction season
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with senior leadership
