Job Description
Operations Supervisors with Cando are responsible for day to day and shift by shift execution of the daily operation plan. Working in a customer-oriented environment must lead the team to meet customer commitments and expectations efficiently and safely while demonstrating a strong initiative, organization, and leadership skills.
Roles & Responsibilities
Safety
Actively participates in the execution of Cando's Safety Management Plan and initiatives including audits and reports; observes, documents, and evaluates safe work practices as per rules and regulations
Facilitates employee meetings and safety briefings to review any safety hazards and risks, discuss changes in the workplace, and promote general safety awareness;
participates on customer safety and quality teams as required
Investigates accidents and incidents, to determine root causes and implement corrective action plans
Work with team to develop opportunities for continuous improvement,
Maintains standard operating procedures, and local operating instructions, operating the site safely and meeting all regulatory requirements
Provides direct supervision, conducts proactive proficiency observations, and daily records of operations
Service Delivery
Supports daily and weekly operating plans and customer interaction for the team ensuring customer needs are being met
Supervision of team members to ensure efficient execution of the daily operating plans.
Performs regular audits and confirms that all preventative and scheduled maintenance and inspections are completed as required to ensure the facility and equipment remains in prime operating conditions at all times
Managing workforce and workload to ensure sufficient team members and assignments in place to meet the daily operating needs.
Builds and maintains positive relationships customers, peers, and other third parties
Management and Administration
Develop and manage budgets,
Develop and execute service plans,
Timekeeping, staffing and managing resource requirements
Monitor payroll
People
Assists in establishing, hiring and maintaining the operating team
Influences and inspires team to achieve personal and company objectives
Create personnel development plans
Provides for the delivery of training and developmental requirements related to the department through employee coaching and mentoring
Trains team members and provides operational assistance and expertise when required
Creates a work environment that is open to maintaining positive relationships; empowers individuals and teams to set and accomplish goals
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
Excellent teamwork and strong customer service skills
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds and levels of comprehension including managers, employees, customers, and the public
Demonstrated ability to work with others to foster a respectful workplace;
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner with regard to sensitive or confidential issues
Proficient in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets and database software
Ability to obtain and maintain required qualifications and Safety Critical Medical clearances including passing customer and Cando drug and alcohol screening including pre-employment, post incident , and reasonable grounds testing
Ability to pass a criminal background check; hold and maintain a valid provincial driver's license
Education & Experience
Grade 12 or GED
Minimum five (5) years' working in heavy industrial environment; previous rail experience is an asset
Minimum two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory position. Rail Supervision experience is an asset
Experience working with Safety Management Systems
Class 5 driver's license
