Why WestJet:
Every WestJet journey has the potential to enrich lives; a career with us is no exception.
WestJet arrived on the Canadian airline scene in 1996 and changed the industry for the better. We made air travel more affordable for Canadians and now we're going global.
Join us, this is where your career story takes off.
We are seeking an experienced Inventory Planner to support Technical Operations within a dynamic airline environment. This role is responsible for proactively planning and optimizing aircraft technical inventory to ensure operational reliability, aircraft availability, and disciplined inventory investment.
The successful candidate will combine analytical rigor with operational awareness — translating maintenance demand, fleet plans, and usage trends into structured inventory strategies that minimize risk while maintaining high service levels.
This is a high-impact role operating at the intersection of Supply Chain, Engineering, and Maintenance.
What You Will Do:
Strategic Inventory Planning
Develop and maintain demand forecasts for rotable, repairable, expendable, and consumable aircraft materials
Analyze maintenance schedules, work orders, fleet growth plans, and historical consumption to anticipate demand
Govern Min/Max levels, safety stock, reorder parameters, and stocking strategies
Balance aircraft availability requirements with inventory investment discipline
Service & Risk Management
Monitor performance against fill rate, service level, backorder, and stockout targets
Identify and mitigate risks related to lead times, part criticality, repair cycle variability, and supply chain disruption
Perform structured root cause analysis on shortages and parts-related operational impacts
Develop mitigation strategies to protect fleet readiness
Cross-Functional Partnership
Collaborate closely with Maintenance Planning, Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, and Stores
Participate in regular planning reviews to align inventory strategy with operational requirements
Provide data-driven recommendations to support decision-making
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
Build and maintain reporting tools and dashboards to measure forecast accuracy and inventory performance
Leverage large datasets to identify trends, risks, and optimization opportunities
Contribute to process automation and planning maturity initiatives
Support system enhancements and inventory optimization efforts
What We're Looking For:
Experience
5–8+ years of experience in inventory planning, material management, maintenance planning, or supply chain analytics
Experience in aviation, aerospace, MRO, defense, or other highly regulated technical environments strongly preferred
Exposure to rotable/reparable inventory planning is an asset
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of inventory planning concepts: safety stock, service levels, lead time variability, EOQ, demand forecasting
Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP/MRO systems and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
Comfort working with large datasets and translating analysis into actionable insight
Familiarity with inventory optimization or multi-echelon environments is an asset
Professional Attributes
Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, operationally critical environment
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders
Organized and capable of managing multiple priorities
Why This Role Matters:
This position directly impacts:
Aircraft availability and on-time performance
Reduction of AOG exposure
Optimization of multi-million-dollar inventory investment
Operational cost control and planning discipline
You will play a key role in strengthening planning maturity and supporting the reliability of a complex airline operation.
