Position Summary
We are seeking a talented Structural Drafter with estimating experience to join our industrial project team. This role combines technical drafting with a strong understanding of structural estimating to support pre-construction planning, bid preparation, and project execution. The ideal candidate will be able to produce accurate structural drawings while assisting estimators with quantity take-offs, material calculations, and cost analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed structural drawings, shop drawings, and sketches for industrial projects, including steel frameworks, supports, platforms, and structural modifications
- Review project specifications and drawings to support accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimation
- Collaborate with estimators and project managers to develop pricing based on drawings and material requirements
- Revise and update drawings to reflect design changes, client feedback, and site requirements
- Assist in creating bid packages, scope clarifications, and post-bid documentation
- Maintain organized drawing files, standards, and documentation for estimating and project teams
- Support change order pricing and updates as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of structural drafting experience, preferably in industrial or commercial projects
- Minimum 3 years' experience in Autodesk Inventor (structural and sheet metal)
- Hands-on estimating experience or familiarity with quantity take-offs, material pricing, and cost analysis
- Proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D)
- Experience with Tekla would be an asset
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding, bolting, and erection methods
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for estimating and documentation
Preferred Assets
- Experience in industrial sectors such as oil & gas, manufacturing, power, or processing facilities
- Familiarity with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, AutoBid)
- Technical diploma or degree in Structural Engineering Technology, Drafting, or related field
- Understanding of codes, standards, and safety regulations in industrial structural work
