Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Structural Estimator with drafting experience to join our team. The successful candidate will prepare accurate cost estimates for industrial structural projects, including steel fabrication, structural supports, platforms, and framing. This role requires strong technical knowledge of structural steel, the ability to perform take-offs from drawings, and proficiency in drafting software to support estimating and project planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates for industrial structural projects, including steel fabrication, installation, and modifications
  • Perform quantity take-offs from structural drawings, plans, isometrics, and specifications
  • Develop and revise technical drawings and sketches to support estimating and construction planning
  • Review project scopes, structural drawings, and specifications to identify risks, constructability issues, and optimization opportunities
  • Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate vendor and subcontractor pricing into estimates
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field teams during bid preparation and execution
  • Assist with bid submissions, clarifications, and post-bid reviews
  • Support change order pricing, cost tracking, and estimate revisions as required
  • Maintain estimating databases, labor norms, and historical structural cost data

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience estimating industrial structural projects
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in Autodesk Inventor (structural and sheet metal)
  • Drafting experience required; proficient with Tekla would be an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection methods, and industrial standards
  • Knowledge of welding, bolting, and material specifications
  • Experience estimating labor, equipment, and material costs in industrial environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and estimating software
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (2D and 3D)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Assets

  • Experience in industrial sectors such as oil & gas, power, manufacturing, or processing facilities
  • Experience with take-off and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar)
  • Technical diploma or degree in Structural Engineering Technology, Civil/Mechanical, or related field
  • Familiarity with code compliance, safety standards, and fabrication shop procedures
