Job Summary
Reporting to the Municipal Group of Companies' Environmental Manager, the Environmental Technologist oversees a diverse range of critical environmental components within our divisions. This position ensures meticulous data management, effective coordination, and compliance with regulatory requirements, guidelines, and standards further contributing to our commitment to sustainable and environmentally responsible operations.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Conduct environmental inspections and monitoring at MGOC facilities/projects for compliance with regulatory requirements
Collect soil, surface and groundwater samples as per industry standards and MGOC protocols
Monitor & track various environmental performance indicators
Increase effectiveness of MGOC's Environmental Best Practices and awareness of MGOCs Environmental Management Plan
Collaborate with MGOC staff on various environmental issues
Liaise with regulatory inspectors and agencies
Prepare and review comprehensive environmental reports and summarize the information for Senior Management
Emergency response related to Environmental Incidents
Assist in the development of environmental key performance indicators
Assist in the development of Environmental Protection Plans for MGOC projects and clients
Review and provide input on activities in the environment (wetland alteration planning, remediation, culvert installation, etc.)
Assist with surface water management, water monitoring and reporting
Any other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, And Experience
A degree or diploma from a recognized university or college in a natural or physical science or engineering with specialization in erosion and sedimentation controls, fisheries biology, aquatic biology, ecology and/or another related discipline.
2-3 years' experience in a similar position preferred.
Demonstrate experience in collaboration with regulators.
Demonstrate the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
Experience with sedimentation and erosion control techniques;
Ability to work as part of an environmental team;
Strong time and priority management skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable;
High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning;
Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency.
Experience preparing reports and detailed inspection forms;
Knowledge of various computer tracking systems such as SharePoint
A valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Flexibility to travel across the Maritime Provinces when required.
