To be successful in this role, you must have a strong ability to analyze information rapidly and make prompt decisions, as well as deal effectively with people in a courteous and tactful manner. You will also need to possess the skills necessary to interpret and follow tracks, marks, and other physical evidence of illegal entry.

• You qualify for the GL-5 grade level if you possess one year of general work experience that demonstrates your ability to take charge and maintain composure in stressful situations.


• You qualify for the GL-7 grade level if you possess one year of specialized work experience or meet certain education requirements including superior academic achievement or completion of graduate-level education related to law enforcement.

As a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) employee, you'll enjoy competitive pay rates ranging from $49,739 - $89,518 per year based on duty location. Additionally:

• Your salary may increase up to 25% after completing training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy;


• Eligibility for an additional recruitment incentive package totaling up to $30,‑000 —a sign-on bonus awarded upon completion of your probationary period followed by awards at six-month intervals until total incentives amount reaches maximum allowed value;
  You can earn more money through overtime pay benefits but please note time worked varies each day/week/month because agency priorities shift frequently depending operational needs sometimes forcing employees accept transfers away homes despite calls being short notice periods allowed respectively.
