We're looking for a skilled Senior WordPress Developer to join our team on a client engagement involving a high-traffic, enterprise-grade WordPress site.
The Role
We need an experienced Senior WordPress Developer to collaborate with our team on building and maintaining a complex WordPress site for one of our clients. This is a hands-on development role requiring deep expertise in modern WordPress architecture, performance optimization, and enterprise hosting environments.
What You'll Do
- Update and maintain a custom WordPress theme and plugins following enterprise coding standards
- Work within a WordPress VIP hosting environment, adhering to its coding standards and deployment workflows
- Manage dependencies and project structure using Composer
- Collaborate with our team using a Git-based development workflow (branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews)
- Leverage AI-powered development tools and workflows to accelerate WordPress development (e.g., AI-assisted code generation, automated testing, intelligent debugging)
- Ensure code quality, security, and adherence to WordPress best practices
- Participate in technical planning, architecture decisions, and code reviews with our internal team
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
- Proven experience building and maintaining high-traffic, enterprise-scale WordPress sites
- Hands-on experience with WordPress VIP platform, including familiarity with VIP coding standards, deployment processes, and platform constraints
- Strong proficiency in PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS/SASS
- Experience maintaining and updating custom themes
- Proficiency with Composer for dependency management in WordPress projects
- Strong Git skills and experience with Git-based workflows (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket, branching models, CI/CD pipelines)
- Experience integrating AI development tools into WordPress workflows (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar tools for code generation, review, and testing)
- Solid understanding of REST API and/or GraphQL in the WordPress context
- Familiarity with multisite configurations
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a distributed team
Engagement Details
- 3-6 month contract role with potential for ongoing work
- Estimating 10-20 hours per week
- Collaborative environment working alongside our internal development team
