WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The Engineering Student assists in the development or testing of new plumbing related products and in the modification of existing products. This includes ensuring that products meets the design intent, are manufacturing friendly, meets applicable plumbing standards and building codes, and that the bill of materials are accurate. The Engineering Student helps to support Operations by enhancing current processes through tooling, equipment, and methods. The Engineering Student works with a cross functional team which often includes Quality, Manufacturing, Finance, Compliance, and others to deliver exceptional products quickly.
Primary Responsibilities
Create drawings from proposal to final design.
Drafts testing and verification testing requirements.
Creates and maintains design verification and report (DVP &R) and failure mode effect analysis (FMEA).
Prepares technical reports when requested. May include presentations of reports to peers and others.
Maintain proper filing of information related to projects.
Performs experimental as well as some validation and verification testing on new and existing products.
Uses problem solving and critical thinking techniques to redesign products to aid in manufacturing or component sourcing.
Knowledge of value engineering techniques would be advantageous
Perform experimental and validation and verification testing on new and existing products.
Follow industry test standards, test methods, laboratory test instructions and practices.
Complete assigned tasks in a timely fashion.
Utilize automated test equipment and fixtures, as approved within the organization.
Collect test data and prepare test results to effectively communicate test status to engineering staff and lab manager.
Review of new products or product modifications with engineering (PCPR)
Perform time studies on manufacturing processes
Create work instruction to reflect best known manufacturing processes
Support Operations though the enhancement and development of tooling and equipment
Process engineering change notices
Assist with firmware development and testing of embedded IR and capacitance based sensors
Low voltage electronic circuit design with 8, 16 and 32 bit microcontrollers.
Schematic capture and PCB layout of new prototypes or future product designs
Development and testing of mechatronic systems
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Experience with CAD software CREO or equivalent.
Applied knowledge of electronic design software ( Altium or similar), C or Python programming languages and IDE interfaces (Cypress, Atmel, Arduio etc.)
Working knowledge or experience using machine learning or agentic AI models.
Problem solving skills and attention to detail.
High degree of initiative and motivation and willingness to work proactively, either independently or within a team
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Experience gathering and accurately recording test data. Working knowledge of MS Word & MS Excel.
Registered in a co-op program at an Ontario accredited university or college. Technologist / Technician / Engineer Program or equivalent.
