Reporting to the Vice President Tech Services and Project Evaluation, the GIS Database Manager will work with Denison's Saskatoon-based exploration and project evaluation teams in supporting the advancement of our portfolio of uranium projects in Saskatchewan's Athabasca Basin. This will include various work on Denison's greenfield and brownfield exploration, as well as advanced evaluation projects. The GIS Database Manager will be primarily responsible for managing the team's GIS data, including development, rollout and maintenance of GIS workflows, processes and templates, and maintenance of databases and data rooms. This role is being offered as a full-time position and will be based in Saskatoon, with occasional travel to Denison's project sites.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Data Management – Oversee the entire lifecycle of spatial geological data from initial acquisition and storage to ongoing maintenance and updates.
· Data Integrity – Ensure data accuracy, consistency and reliability by implementing data quality control measures while adhering to national mineral resource data standards. Develop and maintain a robust data management system to ensure data availability, accessibility (import/export) and accuracy.
· Database Design and Optimization – Design and manage the structure of spatial databases (drillhole and sampling), optimizing for efficient querying and analysis. Develop and execute workflows to support collection efforts (mapping and sampling), data import and export, QAQC, and security. Ensuring compliance with environmental and industry standards.
· Metadata Management – Ensure proper documentation of data through metadata, which describes the data's origin, characteristics and usage.
· Spatial Analysis Support – Provide support for spatial analysis tasks by ensuring data is readily available and appropriately structured for analysis tools.
· Participate in interdisciplinary teams to evaluate mineral exploration and evaluation opportunities, due diligence and analysis.
· Maintain software for GIS and database management.
· Create maps, sections, shapefiles, and other geospatial products as requested.
· Develop training and reference materials for GIS and database users and mentor geologists, technicians, and other GIS/database users.
· Produce high-quality technical reports, spatial datasets, and presentation materials.
· Contribute to machine learning or automation initiatives in GIS workflows.
· Bachelor's or Master's degree in GIS, or equivalent (geology, geography, spatial analysis, geomatics, cartography) from a recognized post-secondary institution
· years of relevant work experience (e.g., database management). Previous Athabasca Basin uranium exploration experience is an asset
· Awareness of geological mapping and geochemical sampling processes, including laboratory procedures, QAQC protocols and data analysis
· Strong skills with geographic information software systems (ESRI, ArcGIS, QGIS)
· Experience with database management software (acQuire, GIM suite, Datamine, Fusion, MaxGeo, Datashed, SQL Server)
· Proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Python, R) for GIS automation and data processing
· Drafting experience for map creation
· Understanding of spatial data models and how they are used to represent geographic and geologic features
· A commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace
· Knowledge and basic experience of general management practices in an applied technical environment: e.g. finance (budget, accounting, governance), people management, and project management
· Effective verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
· Strong organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
· Ability to interact successfully with all levels of staff, contractors, and vendors
· Valid driver's license
