Reports To: Manager – Operations & Support Services - Library & Information Services

Primary Purpose 

The Library/Learning Commons Student Assistant is responsible for supporting the operations of the UCW Library and Learning Commons, including offering basic assistance to students, assisting with general supervision and security of these spaces, and providing administrative support to Library/Learning Commons staff.

Specific Responsibilities  

The Library/Learning Commons Student Assistant will at various times be responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the Company: 

  • Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude while greeting and assisting all Library/Learning Commons visitors.
  • Provide excellent service through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Perform a wide variety of administrative tasks, including data entry and the drafting, editing, and revision of reports and other materials.
  • Provide support for organizing and facilitating meetings and special events.
  • Maintain accurate information in various databases.
  • Maintain confidential student information.
  • Comply with all UCW rules, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Position Requirements

    Competencies: 

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects and functions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software programs.
  • Ability to provide a high level of interactive service to others, build relationships, and address identified needs.
  • Ability to quickly respond to changing institutional needs.
  • Ability to work with a multicultural student body in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and a high degree of ethics in all job-related actions.
  • Education and Experience:

    • Minimum of two years of customer service, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience working either professionally or as a student in a post-secondary environment is an asset but not required.
