Rebar estimator intern

Join our team AGF is seeking an Estimator Intern to join our dynamic team based in Kitchener. Reporting to the Estimating Manager, this is a great opportunity to gain practical estimating experience in a leading reinforcing steel/post-tensioning firm, mentorship from experienced estimators with exposure to real tendering processes, and training in reading structural and architectural drawings, quantity takeoffs, and estimating tools.
This is a full-time, in-person summer internship based in Kitchener. The position offers a salary of $21–$24 per hour.

About the Role - Your main responsibilities will include:

• Assist with takeoffs of reinforcing steel and related products from drawings and bid documents under the supervision of the Estimating team;
• Help prepare preliminary quantities and simple estimates for cast-in concrete reinforcement;
• Review tender documents, drawings, addendums and flag questions for the estimating team;
• Support communication with detailing and project teams during the bid/pre-award process;
• Participate in pre-tender/award and team meetings; take notes and follow up on assigned tasks;  
• Learn estimating procedures, software/tools, and industry best practices through hands-on training and mentorship.

About You - The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Enrolled in a Civil Engineering diploma or degree program;  
• Completed at least 1–2 years of post-secondary studies in a relevant program;  
• Ability to read structural and architectural drawings or strong willingness to learn quickly;  
• Strong attention to detail, good math skills, and ability to visualize structural elements;  
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team;  
• Able to commit to a summer full-time schedule and return to studies after the internship;  
• Previous construction or estimating experience is an asset but not required.
