Electrical Engineer (Instrumentation and Control)

This position is based in Mansonville, located in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. As such, it is essential that the candidate reside within close proximity to the office. 

Within the engineering team, the Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, and optimization of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of industrial equipment. This role plays a key part in the continuous improvement of processes and in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The engineer is also closely involved in capacity‑increase and expansion projects.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Design and develop electrical and instrumentation systems for industrial equipment and processes.
  2. Program and troubleshoot variable‑frequency drives (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, and others).
  3. Program and troubleshoot control loops (Allen‑Bradley PLCs and HMIs, and ABB DCS).
  4. Ensure the reliability of communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and others).
  5. Ensure compliance with CSA codes and standards, electrical classification requirements, and other applicable regulations.
  6. Maintain the preventive maintenance program for high‑voltage distribution equipment.
  7. Prepare electrical and control drawings.
  8. Support the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
  9. Collaborate with the maintenance department on diagnostics and reliability of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
  10. Lead engineering teams and external contractors on projects.
  11. Implement preventive maintenance strategies and improve the reliability of instrument control loops.
  12. Participate in risk analyses, HAZOP studies, arc‑flash studies, and training activities.

Competencies required for the role

  • University degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience in electrical engineering.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices.

  • Team‑oriented, motivating, and an effective communicator.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency with programmable logic controllers (Allen‑Bradley PLCs), control systems, and instrument calibration.
  • Proficiency with CSA standards and the Quebec Electrical Code.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and the Canadian Fire Protection Code.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications (Class I Div 1 / Div 2) and applicable codes.
  • Knowledge of ABB DCS systems.
  • Experience with extrusion processes or petrochemical operations (an asset).
  • Bilingualism is an asset, due to communications within our internal departments.
