We are seeking a top-tier Unity engineer (senior/lead level) to architect and build the core systems for a physics-driven casual mobile game with significant commercial potential.
This posting is intentionally targeted at the top 1% of mobile game developers on Upwork.
If you have not shipped polished titles at scale, this role is likely not a fit.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
We are developing a high-tension physics game centered on a deceptively simple mechanic:
A water balloon is filled drop-by-drop
Player chooses when to release it from increasing heights
Real-time physics determines survival vs burst
The experience relies on precise simulation, tactile feedback, and exceptional "game feel." Execution quality will determine success.
Initial launch scope: single-player with progression
Future scope: social modes, live ops, potential franchise expansion
ROLE — TECHNICAL OWNER
You will function as Lead Gameplay Engineer / Technical Architect, responsible for:
• Designing core simulation systems
• Establishing scalable code architecture
• Implementing performance-critical gameplay
• Defining technical standards for production
• Preparing the project for live deployment
You will collaborate with design, art, and production stakeholders.
REQUIRED EXPERTISE (NON-NEGOTIABLE)
Unity Mastery
• 7+ years professional Unity experience
• Expert C# and performance-oriented coding
• Deep knowledge of Unity internals
• Experience shipping high-quality mobile titles
Advanced Physics & Simulation
Demonstrated experience beyond default rigid body systems, including:
• Deformable / soft-body techniques
• Custom physics behaviors
• Elastic or membrane simulation
• Mass distribution & momentum modeling
• Collision tuning for believable outcomes
You must be capable of building a convincing water-filled balloon system that feels physically plausible without requiring full fluid simulation.
Mobile Optimization at Scale
• Profiling CPU/GPU/memory usage
• Maintaining performance on mid-tier devices
• Battery and thermal considerations
• Asset management strategies
• Stable 60 FPS targets
Production Architecture
• Clean, modular, maintainable codebases
• Scalable systems design
• Build pipelines
• Version control best practices
• Technical documentation
Mobile Systems Integration
Hands-on experience with:
• In-app purchases
• Ads SDKs
• Analytics platforms
• Crash reporting
• App Store / Google Play submission requirements
STRONGLY PREFERRED
• Experience with physics-heavy or tactile gameplay titles
• Experience with highly polished casual games
• Prior role as lead or principal engineer
• Familiarity with Cinemachine, URP, Addressables
• Experience integrating FMOD or Wwise
• Live-service or post-launch support experience
EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
• Production-ready core gameplay systems
• Optimized builds for iOS & Android
• Clean, documented, maintainable code
• Technical roadmap for future features
• Integration support for assets and audio
• Deployment guidance
ENGAGEMENT
