Summary:
This role is responsible for assisting in the production of SixRing's products for packaging. Operators are responsible the operation and monitoring of various processing machinery; digesters, mixing tanks, pumps, filters and other ancillary equipment, to produce value added products (like cellulose) from biomass.

Key Responsibilities:
Operations

  • Execution of blending SixRing products as per blend instructions under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Responsible for maintaining SixRing standards for the movement of materials within the operating area.
  • Operate material handling equipment, such as, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and other equipment both efficiently and safely.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are utilized efficiently and maintain consistent communication with the shift supervisor.
  • Operate, co-ordinate and monitor process equipment to control process operations and machinery in the production of cellulose or other products.
  • Control the processing of the specific biomass product and monitor the chemical and physical process operations using a distributed control system and process computers.
  • Analyze instrument readings and production test samples and make adjustments according to process and standard operating procedures.
  • Observe equipment and machinery panel indicators, gauges, level indicators and other equipment instruments to detect machinery and equipment malfunctions and ensure process steps are carried out according to specifications.
  • Complete and maintain production reports.
  • Document and communicate all required process data and information to the shift supervisor, quality assurance and laboratory staff.
  • Responsible for reporting any equipment malfunction to shift supervisor and facility maintenance lead.
  • Attend safety meetings, reviews and reporting activities as required.
  • Effectively communicate with all employees to ensure they are always working safely, and communicating to minimize any unnecessary risks.
  • Ensure all manufacturing objectives are met efficiently and safely.
  • Establish and maintain complete confidentiality and security in and around our facilities at all times, establish and follow procedures as required.
  • Maintain all appropriate documentation, safety and ISO Certifications and employee training as required for your area of responsibility.
  • Attend daily and weekly operations meetings as required.
  • Report all incidents or near misses to HSE Manager.
  • Ensure safe, cleanliness and hygiene practices and conditions are maintained at all times.
  • Attend meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of chemical production processes (physical and chemical properties of raw materials and products).
  • Able to understand the equipment and production processes.
  • Flexibility to work with and provide support for a number of people and departments.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with colleagues from all parts of the organization, and with external entities.
  • Problem-solving, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and safety mindset.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to develop relationships across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook.

Experience/Education

  • 2-5 years of experience in a related role preferably in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Secondary school diploma or GED is required.
  • A college or other program in biomass product processing or a related subject is an asset.
  • Experience as a pulp mill, papermaking or finishing machine operator within the same company is required.
  • Experience with HVAC, heating and cooling systems.
  • TDG and WHIMIS certification is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Rotating shift work Monday to Friday
  • Averaging agreement
  • Overtime and being on-call is required.
  • Ability to lift 45 lbs.
  • Ability to work in varied environments and conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a respiratory (mask) fit test.
