• Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration laws, inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations


• Preventing and apprehending undocumented noncitizens and smugglers at or near the border by maintaining surveillance from covert positions using infrared scopes during night operations


• Interpreting tracks, marks, physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband

The annual base salary varies per grade level: GL-5/GL-7 $49,739 - $89,518 per year. Duty location impacts pay rates with locality pay higher in some locations than others. A trained BPA may be eligible for up to 25% additional base pay through the BPA Pay Reform Act.

Promotion opportunities exist within this career ladder position with progression through grades GL-5, GL-7, GL-9 GS-11 & GS12 levels without reapplying upon completion of each level requirements.
