Data Engineer - Job Description Overview
We are looking for a meticulous and forward-thinking Data Engineer to support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data systems used across multiple technical and operational areas. This position blends hands-on engineering with a strong focus on documentation, data quality, and cross-team collaboration. The ideal candidate is adept at building and optimizing data pipelines, managing data models, and producing clear technical documentation that drives transparency and consistency across projects.
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Engineering Build, enhance, and maintain reliable ETL/ELT pipelines for both structured and unstructured datasets. Improve data workflows to maximize performance, scalability, and operational stability. Integrate data from internal systems and external platforms to support analytics, reporting, and automation initiatives. Data Modeling & Storage
Develop and maintain scalable data models and storage solutions (e.g., relational databases, NoSQL systems, cloud-based data stores). Ensure data security, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and industry best practices. Contribute to data governance activities, including metadata tracking and data lifecycle management. Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
Produce high-quality documentation for data systems, architecture, pipelines, and operational processes. Translate complex engineering concepts into digestible materials for both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with internal support and knowledge management teams to keep documentation current and accessible. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as a key technical partner for analytics teams, business units, and leadership groups. Provide regular updates on project progress, potential challenges, and recommended solutions. Assist in the development of training resources and onboarding materials for new tools or data processes. Quality Assurance & Compliance
Participate in UAT and QA activities to ensure data solutions meet quality and compliance requirements. Support change management processes, including version control and documentation updates. Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline. 3-5 years of experience in data engineering or a similar technical function. Strong programming skills (e.g., SQL, Python, Scala) and familiarity with modern data engineering frameworks (e.g., dbt, Airflow, SSIS, Apache Spark). Experience with cloud ecosystems such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Comfortable using project management and documentation tools such as Jira, Asana, Trello, Confluence, or SharePoint. Understanding of SDLC principles and Agile methodologies. Additional Skills
Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on quality. Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities. Excellent communication skills-written and verbal. Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously. Background in industries such as SaaS, financial technology, or other regulated environments is a plus. Ability to produce data flow diagrams and create or maintain technical documentation templates. Motivated, proactive, and eager to contribute in a meaningful way.
