General Description – General Labor Position

Sample Preparation Technicians will be working with rocks and preparing them for analysis. These positions are not suitable for those who cannot do periodic lifting throughout the day. Due to safety concerns, contact lenses are not permitted to be worn in the labs at anytime. Strict adherences to safety procedures are required.

Education Required: High School Diploma

Shifts: Full time.

  • Rotating Shifts every two weeks between Days (7:00am-3:00pm) and Afternoons (3:00pm-11:00pm)
  • Straight Nights (11:00pm-7:00am)

Other Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Motivated, quality driven, pro-active and ability to multi-task.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Computer skills an asset.
  • Exhibit common sense.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member and work well unsupervised.
  • Ability to handle several tasks at once.
  • Willingness to display needed effort to meet company goals of improved TAT and quality.
  • Willingness to work overtime if required to complete projects.
  • Clean-shaven in order to wear PPE.
  • Own transportation required.

Responsibilities:

  • Sort samples.
  • Crush and mill allocated number of samples within the shift in accordance to quality operating procedures.
  • Vegetation grinding.
  • Sieve, mill and complete logs.
  • Make duplicates of samples according to client request and quality operating procedures.
  • Clean grinding barrels using white lightning in between each sample.
  • Ensure all finished samples are stored in order in boxes.
  • Complete individual production logs and submit them to supervisor.
  • Load samples in drying rooms and keep the logs up to date.
  • Use of LIMS to creates sample list and labels.
  • Archive samples and record location in the log.
  • Maintain equipment (greasing).
  • Assist in ensuring turnaround time meets clients and Presidents requirements by working overtime when required.
  • Ensure all data is produced with high quality.
  • Maintain a clean workstation throughout the day.
  • Ensure the workstation is thoroughly cleaned and ready for the following shift.
  • General laboratory housekeeping.
  • Compliance with ALL safety procedures including MSDS review.
  • Any other tasks as determined by Lab Manager/Process Owner.
