Role Impact:

The Senior Director is a senior national leadership role responsible for the enterprise-wide strategic execution and management key security, resilience, and cyber programs. Reporting to the Vice President, National Security & Safety Operations, this position provides oversight for national strategy execution, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and Cadillac Fairview's risk appetite.

A core mandate of this role is to evolve the organization's capabilities through stronger partnerships and better data and intelligence to enable predictive, actionable responses that reduce risks and threats to our properties.

This leader will be a key driver of the strategic plan, responsible for breaking down functional silos and maturing our capabilities into a proactive, value-generating business partner.

What you will deliver:

  • Evolve the organization's security capabilities by cultivating stronger partnerships and leveraging advanced data and intelligence to enable predictive, actionable responses that effectively reduce risks and threats to CF properties.
  • Execute on and oversee the enterprise-wide strategy for critical national programs, including Security Operations, Enterprise Resilience, Security Technology, and OT Cyber Security.
  • Lead high-profile and highly complex investigations into serious and violent criminal activity targeting the CF portfolio. This includes managing cases involving organized criminal networks in Canada and working closely with law enforcement agencies and Crown prosecutors across the country.
  • Drive the strategy for security technologies, specifically identifying and piloting emerging and next-generation solutions, while leveraging smart building infrastructure to support and enhance the security mandate.
  • Lead Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security, collaborating closely with Data & Technology, as well as external law enforcement and intelligence partners, to protect Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) against evolving threats.
  • Develop multi-year operational implementation roadmaps and establish metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk indicators (KRIs) to measure program effectiveness and maturity.
  • Champion strategic innovation initiatives, such as cyber-physical convergence, aligning the enterprise security vision with CF's future state.
  • Lead the execution of CF's national security strategy, partnering with members of the SLT on governance and enterprise risk mitigation.
  • Provide strategic input the national security budget, resource allocation, and major projects, ensuring alignment with corporate asset class imperatives across Retail, Office, Residential, Industrial, and Leasing.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise security policies, standards, and playbooks, ensuring they are effectively implemented by regional teams.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the SLT and business line heads, delivering enterprise security briefings on threats, trends, and the national risk landscape.
  • Represent CF in high-level discussions with senior government, law enforcement, and intelligence partners on matters of enterprise risk and public safety.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key vendors, academic institutions, and industry associations to advance CF's security posture.
  • Provide dotted-line leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the Directors of Security Operations, guiding them on the implementation of national programs and policies.

What your strengths are:

  • Proven experience leading organizational transformation in a complex environment; a track record of maturing nascent programs and driving a culture of continuous improvement from a reactive posture to a proactive, intelligence-led business partner.
  • Proven ability to execute national-level security strategies that align with business objectives and an enterprise risk framework, specifically translating security metrics into business value.
  • Ability to brief senior executives, boards, and external partners on complex risk and security matters. Capable of acting as the primary company spokesperson during a crisis, maintaining stakeholder confidence under public scrutiny.
  • A track record of championing innovation and developing future-focused security plans. Demonstrated ability to lead the convergence of physical security and OT Cyber Security, bridging the gap between IT and Operations to protect critical infrastructure.
  • Deep, multi-disciplinary knowledge spanning legal, political, social, and technological domains, with specific expertise in overseeing complex, high-stakes investigations involving organized crime and coordination with Crown prosecutors.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence in a matrixed organization, building consensus and empowering senior leaders (Directors) to drive results without direct authority.
  • Strong business and financial acumen with experience developing enterprise-level budgets, capital plans, and investment business cases that justify security spend through ROI and cost avoidance.

What you need to succeed:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive security experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity with responsibility for enterprise-level strategy and programs, ideally at a national or multinational organization with exposure to real assets (property or properties) of complex scope (i.e. large, mixed-use facility) – or equivalent work experience.
  • Must qualify for and achieve a Level II Government of Canada security clearance.
  • A university degree in a relevant business discipline (ex. Public Safety, Business Administration, Political Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a criminology-related discipline) required.
  • Graduate-level or specialized studies in Security, Emergency, or Risk-Based discipline or equivalent business discipline is a definite asset, as is completion of recognized security, emergency management, or safety certification.
