The opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Manager, CLSP and the Operations Lead, CLSP the incumbent is responsible for the provision of technical support to all Clinical Learning & Simulation Program operations within the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences including preparation, maintenance, and repair of simulation equipment (software and hardware), task trainers, and related peripherals, set-up/clean-up of simulation rooms, lab stations, instruments, and equipment for educational sessions. The incumbent for this position must be able to work evenings until 8:30 pm and Weekends from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm with the ability to remain flexible in shift start and end times to meet program requirements.
The qualifications and experience we're looking for:
Bachelor's Degree in a related study area, including laboratory analysis techniques.
OR
Completion of a Community College course in a related discipline with one year's = directly-related experience.
OR
High school completion with job-related options with a minimum of four years = directly related experience.
One year experience in a Clinical Simulation environment.
or
Two years' experience in a clinical healthcare setting (e.g. Nursing Assistant, Health Unit Assistant, Emergency Medical Responder, etc).
or
Two years' experience in a related technical setting from which comparable skills can be acquired (e.g. Audio-Visual, Information Technology).
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Strong technical background and ability to set-up, operate, and troubleshoot equipment (A/V, IT, and Simulation Technology).
Strong computer skills and proficiency with Windows and OSX systems and digital audio-visual editing software.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly and easily.
Must demonstrate initiative, independence, reliability, attention to details, and good judgment.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups including faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Ability to organize and maintain accurate records and to make decisions quickly and effectively.
Ability to use tools and equipment as required.
A satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Knowledge of medical terminology and human physiology is an asset.
Prepares simulation areas, patient care simulators, scenario props, supplies, equipment to support the specifications identified by instructional staff.
Serves as a simulator operator by running scenarios with faculty instructors.
Safely handles medical supplies including sharps and surgical instruments.
Assist instructors with the implementation of scenarios.
Assists users in identification of equipment and supplies.
Completes the setup, preparation, and tear down of synthetic, virtual, and other trainers.
Completes the setup, stocking, preparation, and safe disposal of biological samples including animal and human cadaveric parts.
Responsible for the cleanliness of lab space.
Ensures instructor and student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions.
Understands the use and operation of different simulator technologies.
Assembles and prepares task trainer simulators.
Powers on high-fidelity human-patient simulators and associated peripherals.
Breaks down, transports, sets up, and operates simulation off site as required.
Resolves technical problems with systems and equipment.
Completes equipment assembly, repairs or adjustment.
Conducts preventative/routine maintenance.
Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and arranges for repair.
Instructs faculty users and students in the operation, safe handling, and use of simulation equipment, medical equipment, and trainers.
Sets up, configures, and controls cameras, pagers, recorders, and video routing for the main control room, observation area, debriefing rooms and individual rooms.
Conducts troubleshooting of the specialized software and hardware related to Simulation Mannequins and virtual simulators.
Powers on laptop and desktop computers. Navigates through the Windows, and Mac OS X operating systems.
Uses Microsoft products to complete daily tasks.
Assists in creating and maintaining a procedures manual for this position.
May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
