The Corporate Controller will oversee the organization's financial operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards for the Canadian parent company and its subsidiaries in Italy, the US, and China. This role involves managing the preparation of financial statements, coordinating audits, and implementing internal controls to safeguard company assets. The Corporate Controller will also analyze financial data to support strategic decision-making and ensure timely reporting to stakeholders. Additionally, the Corporate Controller will provide leadership to the accounting team, fostering a collaborative environment that promotes professional development and operational efficiency. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of regulatory requirements are essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the reporting and consolidation of Modes Moose Inc. including the following companies:
Canadian parent
Italian, US, UK and Chinese subsidiaries
Other subsidiaries and holdcos as required as the business grows
Manage and control all aspects of accounting and transactional activity of the following channels throughout the world:
Retail and liquidation outlets
Web sales
Wholesale
Oversight on the following
Management of staff (6 direct reports) and the accounts payable team
Reconciliation of data between our operating, POS, web, accounting and reporting systems
Month end file preparation, consolidation and reporting
Monthly and periodic sales, income and other tax returns/filings including Canadian and European VAT filings
Review of general ledger activity ensuring appropriate allocation of revenues and expenses by channel and account
Reconciliation of intercompany transactions
Design, monitor and enforcement of company financial controls, policies and procedures
Responsible for the:
Setup of new companies, retail locations and initiatives
Preparation of year-end audit file, management of year-end audit and other government audits
Automation of all finance functions
Detailed performance analysis, including highlighting areas of concern and opportunities for improvement
Miscellaneous analysis and a variety of special projects as required by management
Cash flow management
Must Haves:
CPA designation with exceptional technical accounting expertise
Strong leadership skills and a team player
Experience implementing new finance systems
Comfortable with a variety of different ERPs and accounting packages
Multi-national experience (US, Europe and China) and the consolidation of financial statements
Effective time management skills and the ability to juggle many different tasks in a fast paced, results focused, entrepreneurial environment
Self-directed and detail oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills
Prepared to add structure to an unstructured environment
Bilingual (FR/EN)

Given the international nature of our business and of this position, the candidate will be required to communicate effectively, on a regular basis, with various stakeholders (co-workers, colleagues, customers, suppliers, etc.) located in Canada outside Quebec or throughout the world. Proficiency in languages other than French (notably, English) will be an asset for the successful candidate.
