Job Overview

The Senior Project Controls Advisor works independently to monitor, control, and report on the financial performance and cost-related aspects of projects managed by assigned project management teams. This role ensures that project costs are accurately identified, accounted for, forecasted, and reported in a timely manner, in alignment with the client's established business practices, procedures, and project lifecycle controls. The position plays a critical role in supporting sound financial decision-making and maintaining cost discipline across multiple complex and multi-disciplined projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect information to support project cost estimates and establish control budgets
  • Monitor incurred project costs, develop forecasts, perform variance analysis, and prepare cost reports for stakeholders
  • Provide capital cost control, variance analysis, and reporting for multiple complex and multi-disciplinary programs/projects
  • Ensure client-sanctioned cost control processes are consistently applied throughout project execution
  • Interpret project-specific business requirements and ensure alignment with the client's project lifecycle gating control processes
  • Prioritize and manage multiple competing projects, adjusting priorities in alignment with departmental objectives and the client's strategic plan
  • Collaborate closely with the PMO, Financial Services department, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate project cost status to project management teams and stakeholders
  • Track and report project performance against plan in partnership with the Project Scheduler
  • Conduct expert analysis to identify cost risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Support the successful implementation and utilization of Project Controls and Finance systems (e.g., EcoSys, Oracle)
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with a broad cross-section of stakeholders within and beyond the Projects business unit
  • Communicate complex technical and financial information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Review existing policies and procedures and recommend process improvements for project cost management
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed

Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in a related field
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of directly related project controls or cost management experience
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and enterprise financial systems
  • Experience with project controls and financial management systems such as EcoSys and Oracle
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve issues efficiently, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound professional judgment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical and financial information clearly
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, stakeholders, vendors, and service providers
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to field sites, including overnight trips when required
