Job Summary

The Project Manager will actively engage with clients and project stakeholders at all phases of the project execution cycle to ensure adherence to budget, schedule and quality of deliverables with the goal of ensuring a successful result in energizing new or upgraded power services. Reporting to the President, this individual will provide a combination of technical oversight and coordination support for a diverse customer portfolio on new or upgraded power services connections.

Education & Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be registered with APEGA as a P. Eng. or PL or aspire towards becoming a certified professional 6 months after being hired into the role.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in electrical distribution systems is required.
  • Candidates possessing less than the required years of experience may be considered at a developmental level.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Aerial and Underground Distribution system design or construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques will be considered an asset.
  • Experience in project management of complex utility design and construction projects is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and manage complex budgets and schedules relative to this area of responsibility.
  • Possess strong project management and team leadership skills with a combined ability to build meaningful interpersonal and collaborative relationships within internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to influence problem solving around technical or complex issues.
  • Can apply professional judgments to make sound decisions while managing shifting priorities in a dynamic and agile environment.
  • High level of competence with computer software. In particular: Microsoft Office, Ivara and other work Management tools such as MS Project.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality client service that maintains technical excellence, budget, schedule and contractual requirements.
  • Actively engage directly with clients to understand their requirements and expectations and deliver top quality solutions.
  • Identify the necessary budget requirements for the provision of engineering and operational field resources, process improvements, technology upgrades, design improvements related to improved safety and reliability for the timely delivery of customer projects.
  • Develop, implement and review Project Execution processes to ensure compliance to service deliverables, policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
  • Ensure all aspects of project management for a portfolio of customers for new or upgraded power connections.
  • Lead construction management, including following up on field inspections, managing construction deficiencies and contractor coordination.
  • Lead site consultation and determining site servicing to ensure electrical system compatibility, and the field review of engineering designs to warrant constructability.
  • Define, negotiate and communicate service delivery dates with customers.
  • Set project priorities and manage schedule compliance to ensure on time delivery.
  • Lead customer communications throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Develop strong relationships with industry partners.
  • Review aerial and underground distribution estimates and designs completed by engineering technologists.
  • Report on progress of work and account for variances.
  • Assist in the development of work practices and procedures.
  • Travel to client sites for project scoping, verification, construction support and meeting with clients as needed.
  • Ensure all safety procedures and processes are followed with the goal of zero injury.
  • Work safely and follow all rules and procedures including attending and participating in safety meetings and completing all required safety orientation and training.
  • Completion of other relevant duties as required.

Position Conditions

  • Job is performed in an office environment but site travel (approximately 20%) will be required depending on the client.
