Job Description

A dynamic and collaborative Canadian-based organization is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join their finance team in Halifax.
The successful candidate will support audit and accounting functions while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and high-performing workplace culture. This role requires exceptional communication skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and a commitment to excellence in all financial and operational processes.

Key Responsibilities for the Job:

  • Process and reconcile accounts receivable and maintain accurate financial records
  • Review and verify daily transaction records and reconcile multiple accounting systems and spreadsheets
  • Ensure accuracy of cash handling and inventory-related documentation, investigating discrepancies as needed
  • Monitor financial results on an ongoing basis and prepare variance analyses and reports
  • Review and reconcile cash transactions, resolving any discrepancies efficiently
  • Troubleshoot system issues, verify data, and provide input for resolution
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly financial summaries and reports
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information

Experience & Attributes for Success:

  • Post-secondary accounting education or equivalent combination of education and experience
    Minimum 1 year of experience in accounting and cash handling
  • Strong customer service skills, able to exceed expectations through timely and effective communication
  • Computer literacy in MS Office; experience with accounting software considered an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record keeping
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Willingness to learn and support broader accounting functions as needed
