The Job
SRC Can is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to work with SRC Can management to establish, maintain, and enhance SRC Can's IT systems and operational processes to ensure that SRC Can employees have reliable and responsive IT capabilities that comply with the appropriate cybersecurity standards.  The IT Administrator will require deeper knowledge of systems, applications, infrastructure, and automation and be capable of investigating and resolving complex issues.  As SRC Can's first dedicated IT hire, you'll help shape our IT environment and operating practices, with clear opportunity to grow your responsibilities as the organization scales.  This is a dual role that also includes implementing the SRC Can local infrastructure IS elements and ongoing support for the IS projects for SRC Can and SRC Can's customers.
What You'll Do:
  • Deploy, configure, maintain, and improve hardware and software systems including servers, networking, virtualization, endpoints, backup, cloud, and related solutions.
  • Implement IT/DevOps projects for SRC Can and SRC Can's customers, including working with subject matter and domain experts to elicit, understand, and record IT requirements.
  • Develop and maintain written IT policy, procedures, and related documentation.
  • Define requirements and make recommendations for new infrastructure procurements.
  • Maintain records of system inventory, asset allocations, IT procurements, disposals, work to be carried out, and work in progress/completed.
  • Interpret and understand cybersecurity principles and standards.
  • Document and implement compliance with CPCSC controls.
  • Perform Cybersecurity self-assessments contributing to CPCSC accreditation.
  • Administer and support corporate and customer IT services by diagnosing and resolving technical issues on-site or remotely via phone, email, and MS Teams.
  • Configure, monitor, and respond to system logs/alerts, and performance metrics; implement preventive measures.
  • Actively engage in your professional development through reviews, goal setting, skill and knowledge development, and structured education/training.
What You'll Bring:
  • Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT administration.
  • Ability to understand key concepts, perform research and learn, think independently, recommend well-reasoned solutions, and overcome technical challenges.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows, Windows Server, and Linux environments and configurations.
  • Experience with identity and access management, unified endpoint management, and group policies.
  • Experience administering network services (Firewall policies, VLANs, DHCP, DNS servers, Certificate Authorities).
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent English verbal/written communication skills.
Additional Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, Entra ID, Active Directory, and Defender.
  • Experience with cloud and CI/CD capabilities and solutions.
  • Cloud certifications (e.g. Azure or AWS administration certifications).
  • Networking certifications (e.g. Cisco certifications such as CCNP).
  • Experience implementing hypervisors, virtual environments, and VMs.
  • Experience with cybersecurity standards and DevSecOps best practices.
  • Experience with scripting/automation in PowerShell, Linux shell, YAML, and Python.
  • Proficiency in French is an asset.
Additional Information
Total compensation for this role is market competitive. The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Ottawa, ON, is estimated at $75,000 to $110,000 annually.
The actual salary will vary based on applicant's span of technical knowledge, experience, technical skills, and abilities, as well as other business and organizational needs.
Candidates must meet the requirements of export control and security regulations for registration in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and be eligible to hold a Government of Canada Level 2 (Secret) Security Clearance.
SRC Can offers a comprehensive salary, vacation, and benefits package. We are extremely flexible around our 40-hour working week. We operate in a hybrid working environment with all staff being able to work remotely. You will work out of the SRC Can office (Gloucester, Ottawa, ON), and when required, in Department of National Defense (DND) facilities, such as the Shirley's Bay or Tunney's Pasture areas within the National Capital Region (NCR).
