MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - MECHANIC
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time.
Compensation: Annual salary range of
$85,000 – $95,000. Starting salary is determined based on the successful candidate's knowledge, experience, and internal parity.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Risk Manager and Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician - Mechanic is responsible for a wide range of maintenance, repair and labour assignments and tasks. The Maintenance Technician – Mechanic is an experienced professional with a well-rounded skill set.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Mechanical
- Repair and ensure the safe operation of all mechanical equipment;
- Inspect and certify school buses, campus vehicles, boats, trailers etc., in compliance with the Motor Vehicle Standards Act;
- Apply preventive maintenance strategies to reduce mechanical downtime;
- Respond to emergency breakdowns;
- Provide input to and feedback on preventive maintenance programs;
- Perform job site cleanup and equipment handling;
- Perform other duties as required.
General Maintenance
- Support a variety of repair and maintenance assignments throughout the Shawnigan campus;
- Conduct regular maintenance, safety checks and repairs to related equipment and systems including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc.;
- Provide professional and efficient support for event setups and teardowns;
- Assemble and disassemble office and residential furnishings and fixtures;
- Manage the safe handling of materials and inventory, including moving furniture between residences;
- Unload, load, and secure incoming and outgoing materials and supplies;
- Retrieve, distribute, and monitor recyclables and waste;
- Perform snow removal and other seasonal landscaping responsibilities (when needed);
- Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms and updating maintenance reports within the computerized maintenance management system and reporting maintenance statuses to supervisor;
- Perform other duties as required
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Red Seal Mechanic certification required
- Valid class 2 BC driver's licence with air brake endorsement required
- At least 3-5 years progressive experience in the maintenance of heavy-duty equipment
- Experience with truck and trailer repair, heavy equipment, welding, commercial Vehicle Inspections, fleet maintenance
- Strong mechanical and problem solving skills, with relevant work experience
- Ability to work in a physical capacity including heavy lifting and moving and using tools throughout the workday
- Able to work in variable climate conditions, indoors and outdoors, with and around various machinery
- Experience with hand tools, electric tools, hand carts, and furniture dollys
- Sound knowledge of HVAC, electrical or mechanical systems preferred
- Certifications in forklift, boom lift, scissor lift, fall arrest, and WHMIS preferred
- A flexible mindset, with a willingness to take on new tasks and to learn new skills
- Self-motivated and independent, with a proven ability to work without supervision
