About the Role:
The Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for all utility operations, including generation, transmission, distribution, engineering, customer billing, and business administration. Reporting directly to the CEO of Naka Power Utilities (NWT), this role combines operational oversight with strategic planning and financial stewardship. The Manager ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective service delivery, drives modernization initiatives, and provides senior management-level input on company strategy and risk management.
What You'll Do:
Strategic and Operational Leadership
Directs utility's operations ensuring safety, and regulatory compliance.
Develops and implements operational strategies aligned with company objectives.
Financial Oversight
Oversees and manages the utility's operating and capital budgets.
Aligns financial performance with goals and addresses variances to meet targets.
Identifies and implements cost-efficiency measures without compromising reliability or safety.
Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management
Ensures compliance with territorial, federal, municipal, and environmental regulations.
Ensures maintenance of emergency preparedness and risk mitigation plans.
Organizational Leadership
Leads and mentors employees, fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and innovation.
Drives workforce professional development and succession planning.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement
Liaises with Indigenous governments, municipal leaders, and regulators.
Represents the utility in public forums and industry associations.
Strategic Planning and Innovation
Oversees long-term planning for infrastructure upgrades and sustainability initiatives.
Champions modernization projects focused on operational efficiency and reliability improvements while ensuring customer rates are not significantly impacted.
What You Bring:
Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
8–10 years of progressive leadership experience in electric utility.
Strong strategic planning, financial management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proven ability to manage complex systems and regulatory frameworks.
Ability to translate organizational goals into actionable plans.
Strong focus on process improvement, safety, and reliability.
Skilled in managing O&M budgets, capital projects, and identifying cost efficiencies.
Deep understanding of territorial and federal regulations.
Builds trust and maintain positive relationships.
Ability to lead diverse teams and foster engagement.
Drives modernization initiatives and adapts to evolving industry trends.
Demonstrates integrity, accountability, collaboration, inclusivity, resilience, and agility.

Naka Power Utilities (NWT) (Naka) is a partnership between ATCO Ltd. and Denendeh Investments Inc. (DII) representing 27 Dene First Nations across the Northwest Territories. Naka has been providing safe, reliable electricity to communities across the Northwest Territories for over 70 years.
