Customs and Border Protection Officers play a critical role in safeguarding our nation's borders, enforcing customs and immigration laws, and facilitating legitimate trade and travel.

• Safeguard America by protecting its borders against criminal activity, such as smuggling of illicit goods or individuals.

• Conduct inspections of people, documents, vehicles
   and cargo to ensure compliance with U.S. customs regulations. 

Evaluate evidence gathered during inspections to determine admissibility
/inadmissibilityof individuals for entry into the United States.

• Determine whether articles are prohibited or restricted items,
  i.e., agricultural products that could potentially harm native species,
  hazardous materials that pose health risks to travelers,e tc .
