Position Summary:
Under the direction of the CIRMMT systems/technical manager, the incumbent is responsible for the acquisition and installation of the necessary equipment and may perform some or all of the listed functions. In adherence with CFI policies, he/she will oversee the acquisition, installation and training for the equipment, as well as be the responsible person for managing purchases (working closely with the immediate supervisor, Principal Investigator and Principal Researcher, as well as administration units at McGill such as Procurement Services and Finance) for the research projects, liaising with companies and reporting to the university.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the acquisition and installation of equipment in coordination with the CIRMMT technical team.

  • Recommends and verifies research equipment options. Contact vendors; ensure best quality and cost options in compliance with McGill policies and procurement department.

  • Coordinates equipment purchases via McGill Marketplace and external vendors.

  • Acts as resource person and resolves problems with regards to the CFI project, establishing priorities and adherence to timelines to avoid implementation delays during the first years of the grant. Oversee all components and equipment parts of the grant.  

  • Maintains comprehensive inventory and documentation related to equipment purchased.

  • Liaise with McGill Facilities personnel to ensure compliance with design specifications. Liaise between the principal investigator and researcher of the grant, the internal units at McGill (SI office).

  • Coordinate meetings and follow up with key stakeholders regarding the progress of the project.

  • Analyze and compile metrics data for Project Progress reporting.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

  • Experience managing large projects.

  • Experience in a research environment, specifically in the context of CIRMMT's related fields, with a focus on the intersection of research and technology in sound and music related areas.

  • Experience of CFI budget structure and granting agencies in general is a strong asset.

  • English, spoken and written. French knowledge is an asset.
