Job Title: Business Intelligence Developer
Please note: This position is based in Guelph, ON and is in-person a minimum of 3 days per week and up to 5 days per week.
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Power BI Developer to join our Data & Analytics team. The ideal candidate will specialize in designing, developing, and maintaining Power BI solutions that deliver clear, actionable insights to business stakeholders. This role focuses heavily on Power BI report development, data modeling, DAX, and visualization best practices, while collaborating closely with data engineers and business users to ensure high-quality, trusted analytics.
Responsibility
- Design, develop, publish, and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards aligned with business requirements.
- Build and optimize Power BI semantic models (datasets), including star schema and snowflake data models.
- Develop advanced DAX measures, calculated columns, and KPIs to support complex analytical needs.
- Ensure report performance through query optimization, model tuning, and efficient DAX patterns.
- Develop complex SQL queries to extract, transform, and load data.
- Implement row-level security (RLS) and ensure proper access controls in Power BI.
- Collaborate with data engineers to consume data from Microsoft Fabric, SQL Data Warehouse, and other enterprise sources.
- Validate data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across Power BI reports.
- Apply Power BI visualization best practices to create intuitive, user-friendly dashboards.
- Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and iterate based on feedback.
- Support and troubleshoot Power BI issues related to data refreshes, performance, and report usage.
- Document Power BI solutions, data models, and business logic.
- Train and support end users on Power BI reports, dashboards, and self-service analytics.
Academic/Educational Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Required Skills/Experience
- Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Developer, or similar analytics role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, and Power BI Gateways.
- Solid understanding of data modeling concepts (star schema, fact/dimension tables).
- Advanced knowledge of DAX and Power BI performance optimization techniques.
- Strong SQL skills for data analysis and validation.
- Experience working with SQL Data Warehouses and enterprise data sources.
- At least 1 year of experience working with analytics or BI solutions.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Semantic Models).
- Experience with data integration and ETL processes.
- Experience implementing incremental refresh and optimizing large datasets.
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, and reporting standards.
- Familiarity with Excel, Power Automate, and Power Apps integration with Power BI.
- Knowledge of cloud-based data platforms and modern BI architectures.
