IT Field Engineer – Based in Cardiff or Bristol £35,700 + up to 15% bonus + ECOP Car | 45 hours per week Renault Retail Group is looking for a supportive and proactive IT Field Engineer to join our UK IT team. You’ll help keep technology running smoothly across our dealerships and work with colleagues who value clarity, professionalism and collaboration. What you’ll do * Provide on-site IT support across multiple dealerships * Resolve hardware, software and connectivity issues * Deploy laptops, desktops, telephony and user devices * Support installations, upgrades and maintenance * Work with the IT/IS Manager on process improvements * Deliver 1st–3rd line support and escalate when required * Manage helpdesk tickets and incoming requests * Complete system checks and routine maintenance * Document technical processes clearly * Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams * Assist with routers, switches, firewalls and VPN tasks * Support LAN and Wi‑Fi troubleshooting * Carry out basic cabling tracing and patching * Maintain site IT assets and stock * Support SD‑WAN and modern networking initiatives Territory and travel This role covers our Cardiff and Swansea dealerships and our six Bristol sites. You’ll also make reasonably frequent visits to Greater London, the Home Counties and our Bolton dealership, with occasional visits to partner organisations. We welcome applicants living within a practical commute of Bristol or South Wales. What we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who communicates clearly, enjoys helping others and brings a calm, professional approach to on‑site support. You should have experience in field support or similar technical work, and be confident working independently across different locations. You’ll be comfortable using Microsoft 365 and Windows environments, with a good understanding of networking concepts such as SD‑WAN, VPN, routing, LAN/Wi‑Fi and firewalls. Strong organisational skills will help you manage visits, tasks and priorities effectively. It’s helpful if you’re familiar with hardware swaps, troubleshooting and basic cabling tasks, and have experience coordinating suppliers or service partners. Certifications such as ITIL v4, CompTIA, Microsoft or Cisco are desirable, and awareness of standards such as PCI DSS or ISO 27001 is beneficial but not essential. Licence requirement A full UK driving licence is essential, and automatic‑only licences are acceptable. Foreign licences within the UK grace period are also welcome. Hours and pay This role offers a salary of £35,700 per year, along with an annual bonus of up to 15%. An ECOP car will be provided after one month of service, and a demo car will be available initially where required, subject to normal BIK. You will work 45 hours per week, usually between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Flexibility is important due to travel demands, occasional earlier starts or later finishes, and periodic on‑call requirements. On‑call duties may occur two to three times per year, with the possibility of increased frequency during major business projects. Business mileage is reimbursed, and overnight accommodation plus reasonable business‑related expenses are reimbursed when agreed in advance with your line manager. A company laptop and mobile phone will also be provided.
